What I find interesting is that people have no problem with Arnel Pineda in Journey, but flat out refuse to give a penny to a Lindsey Buckingham-less Fleetwood Mac or Kiss without Ace and Peter. Same goes with them being fine seeing half of Queen fronted by an American Idol contestant. At least with FM and Kiss, there's enough hit songs that others sang on that they'll still give you a show full of hits, and it isn't like Styx where many people do miss Dennis DeYoung, but despite him being the most famous lead singer of the band, they had quite a few hits with Tommy Shaw that you're still getting one of the guys who sang lead on the original recordings.Of course nothing is worse than what constitutes Chicago in 2019. Not only is Terry Kath dead (and has been for 40 years) and Peter Cetera left contentiously back in the mid-1980s, but Bill Champlin and Jason Scheff who were there to continue singing lead for the remainder of the hits have also left in recent years. So not only are you not even getting the replacement singers who also added a few more hits to the table, but you're getting THEIR replacements.

With Kiss, I think Ace and Peter have burned bridges with Gene and Paul too many times so I kind of understand where they're coming from in being over another reunion. Plus, Kiss actually did have success without those two. Maybe not to the extent of their 70s work, but they did have some successful albums with Carr, Vincent and Kulick to where it isn't like Kiss dropped off the face of the earth when Criss left in 1980. Journey on the other hand saw their sales plummet drastically when Steve Augeri came in, and only saw a sales reprieve when they started milking the "you miss Steve? close your eyes when Arnel sings, you won't notice a difference" and that nostalgia capitalization saved them, but it was still always about nostalgia for Steve and not pushing a new chapter in their career the way Van Halen did with Hagar or AC/DC did with Brian Johnson or Genesis with Collins.Jmac1979 said:
Well I remember in the Kiss EOTR thread seeing people saying they had the choice to see Kiss or see Queen + Adam Lambert this summer and went with Q+A because they couldn't support a Criss/Frehley-less Kiss even though I think most people would argue Freddie was far more irreplaceableJmac1979 said:
Yep and the fact the same people telling us to get over Perry already cry foul that KISS tours minus two guys who weren't even in the equation during the MTV years when KISS still had platinum albums and videos getting heavy rotation, which is more than Journey has done in the past twenty yearsJmac1979 said:
Journey has been nothing but a nostalgia touring band since Perry left. The albums with Augeri were duds and Arnel only faired better because he was promoted as a vocal identical twin to Stece, and the whole "used to sing in a tribute band and now he's with the real deal" shtick endeared him, but it's still been nothing but nostalgia for Perry and they've never tried to be anything but. On the other hand, KISS may not have scaled the highs they did in the 70s but they did have a few successful albums as well as songs added to the "canon" without Ace and Peter. They achieved more without those two than Journey has since Perry left. Journey has nothing post Perry on a par with Lick It Up, Heavens On Fire, Forever or God Gave Rock and Roll To You IIJmac1979 said:
Or they could just accept those days are over just like Zeppelin or The Beatles aren't going to reform without key members of the band. It would've been one thing if Queen had done the AC/DC route immediately afterwards but they let the band lay dormant for too many years after Freddie died, and when John Deacon basically said "**** it I'm out" been the final nail. Hell, part of me hopes that one day Criss and Frehley sue and somehow win the Kiss name and go get some American Idol contestant to sing Paul Stanley's parts while people forget Simmons ever existed, that's what Queen + Adam Lambert basically is

A Beatles tour with Julian and Dhani would fill stadiums but Paul and Ringo know better. Those two are more fit to replace their dad's than a guy from Idol who was briefly popular ten years ago as Freddie. People are going for the music and because Queen are massive right now, not because of AdamJmac1979 said:
Good point but it's funny that people are fine with Journey because time marches on but refuse to see Kiss today despite this lineup being solid for 15 years because of loyalty to the classic lineup though Kiss had more success without looking back to Ace and Peter while Journey has spent the last two decades with various lead singers promoted as "he sounds just like Steve Perry"Jmac1979 said:
I'm actually surprised that a "The Beatles: Come Together Tour" with a revised Julian, Paul, Dhani and Ringo lineup (with James and Zak on speeddial as replacements in case the worst happens and Sean can come in on a few shows and sing Yoko's parts on Birthday and Bungalow Bill) hasn't been considered by LiveNation That thing could break stadium records and audiences wouldn't care if Dhani wasn't even born until years after their breakup because they're seeing "The Beatles", after all it works for "Queen" and people not caring that the guy singing these songs wasn't even conceived when they were originally recorded LMAOJmac1979 said:
Most of the general public are just saying they're seeing "Queen" and not calling it "Queen + Adam Lambert". They don't care about Adam Lambert, they just want to hear Bohemian Rhapsody and We Will Rock You and don't care who sings it because they feel like they're seeing a legendary band, even if the lead singer everyone associates with those songs has been dead for 28 years ago and the guy who is singing for them was born in 1982 and standing next to guys who are probably older than his dad.But then again, obviously the satire and humor of the above post went above everyone's heads (the line about how Paul and Ringo's sons would be on LiveNation's speeddial in case their dad's pass away and how Sean would make occasional drop-ins to sing Yoko parts in songs should've been a kicker), but whatever
