We're slacking, they're going off over there about the non-rocking blacks who got in.

Fusionfan is apoplectic over black people getting recognized for making music I lost count of all the times Fusionfan said Iron Maiden shouldn’t go in the Jazz Hall of Fame in the thread.

No Priest? This is ********. Whitney over Pat Benatar . Sorry that’s BS BIG over Motorhead. Sorry that's BS Biggie over several dozen other acts is BS... safe choices one and all RARHOF............................no balls Maybe Todd will get into the rap hall of fame? Slim pickings for the future inductees, expect to see Adele in there next to Billie Eilish one day Minority artists who don't play rock are minority artists who don't play rock, period. The former has nothing to do with the latter. Jimi Hendrix isn't Whitney Houston and in a ROCK hall, that should matter. The fact that you think you even articulated an argument is truly a marvel. I'd be curious to see if, in the history of this forum, anyone has ever previously made the argument that Whitney Houston played a significant role in the history of rock music. I'd doubt it, because we're reasonable people. And no reasonable person would ever make such a ludicrous argument. Fingers crossed that Joy Division gets into the Barbershop Quartet HOF, and the MC5 get the nod from the Stamp Collector's HOF. Because they deserve some love, and it would make as much sense as Biggie and Whitney being in the Rock HOF. I'm all in for Dinah Shore in 2021. She'll have to wait. They've got to induct Kriss Kross and Color Me Badd first. It has nothing to do with race. 'White guys playing the guitar' used as some sort of slur should be seen for the abject rhetorical move that it is. Iron Maiden don't belong in the Jazz Hall of Fame but it isn't because they are white. Whitney Houston and Biggie have nothing to do with rock, rock and roll, metal, prog, punk...whatever genre of rock. Key point @ 11:38: No reason for the fan ballot with these results. The Hall doesn't give a s**t what the people want. There's no 'reductive argument.' Whitney Houston didn't make rock, wasn't considered rock when she was alive and has nothing to do with rock music. If there weren't this campaign, no one would have spent a moment thinking about her in a rock context. The fact that she can be considered with a straight face for a rock hall when huge rock bands with far more influence IN ROCK ITSELF for decades are routinely ignored, is a clear sign that this is a decision which has nothing to do with rock based criteria. It's about commerce of course but the incoherent attempts at defending it on ideological grounds with discussions of 'white guys' are beyond risible. It's nuts that E.L.P. (one of the most popular bands of the 70's) aren't in...this place of "fame." The cutoff is an ad hoc sense of what looks ideologically and commercially expedient to include. And given some of the annoyed comments here about 'white guys with guitars' and the eye on the hip hop/r and b market in North America which the Hall and Rolling Stone is also courting to some degree, you can see why Whitney and Biggie will always appeal to them more than Bach or John Dowland. We get it. You think the blacks aren’t qualified and are only getting in through affirmative action. Good luck in your quest to Make the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Great Again. your mind reading skills are **** My knowledge of Biggie admittedly doesn't go beyond "big guy who feuded with Tupac and got shot". So can you give me some insight into why you think he got voted in on the first ballot - something that would indicate generational greatness and massive influence on rock? Not looking to argue this, just wondering if you or anyone else who listened to him can hip me to his significance.

//Shite mode on // Apologies if I've asked this before. Maybe I'm too young but I remember his "Hello, It's Me" on the radio when I was a kid - why should anyone care about Todd Rundgren? Seems like a cult choice. What meaningful contributions has he made to "Rock" other than writing some songs and producing a band or two? //Shite mode off//

Are Whitney/BIG going to sell tickets in Cleveland? Unless Beyonce is singing. Cissy accepting the award will be weird, since Whitney's divorced Bobbi Brown and the daughter died. I also wonder about TRex selling tickets. Too many dead members and no obvious band to cover them. Bolan friend Elton John has a Detroit show May 2nd, so he won't be inducting them. Doobies have 50-60 shed shows this summer that are selling well. Why would anyone choose a 3 song RRHOF set over a 2+ hour one? I can't see Skunk tipping the scales much. You are arguing with a phantom and mired in incoherewnce. I am not even remotely speaking to quality, preference or taste. This isn't about which music I listen to or prefer. It's about what rock is, independently of my personal preferences or yours. I am not dismissing any of the music you cited (Madonna, Diana Ross, Whitney etc) as music, good, bad or indifferent. I am dismissing it AS ROCK. Genres have centers of gravity which can be observed. Asserting Whitney is rock doesn't make it so.

Biggie was rock'n'roll as fuck. I mean none of this matters, but he made music with an edge over fucking Phil Collins samples. Phil Collins never achieved such greatness with his own music.

And these are the people that call other people SJW's and snowflakes?
The irony is so thick I had to turn my brights on.
At any rate, STeVE is on the voting committee. But how he voted is a story for another time.
All jokes aside, in this instance, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that it's not just because "dem uppity coloreds is in with muh rawk!". These guys just don't understand demographics. It's the same reason MTV was "banning" rock videos in the 90s, why Rihanna plays the Super Bowl, and why your local oldies station now plays Ace of Base instead of Little Richard: demographics. They're going where the dollars are. Who are they trying to reach? If they were trying to reach white men, ages 50 to 75, sure, induct ELP. Induct Moody Blues. Fuck it, induct Country Joe! (The Fish are optional). They refuse to believe they're outside of the demographic that the networks and ad agencies are after. It's not 1975, fellas.
Worse yet, even when a more contemporary rock band gets in, they throw a shit fit over that! I thought the place was going to implode when Green Day got in.
They're like the listener that refuses to listen to the classic rawk station because they don't play the deeper songs I wanna hear. If it isn't tailored to their specific tastes, then it's all hogwash. I love my boomer music, too, but it's 2020 now, guys. Even the bands I grew up with are oldies. But I also grew up on Biggie, Tupac, A Tribe Callee Quest, etc. So it's a win for me. It's not good enough that you like it, the world needs to also recognize and validate my tastes! I believe Fabgear touched on this in another thread here.
Besides, just change the subject to something they really don't care about, like wealth inequality, bushfires, or dying animal species.
