sinatra streisand willie nelson garth brooks george carlin richard pryor just a matter of time. i thought when wenner left things might change......wrong, very wrong. i've said before and i'll say it again and again: change the ****ing name to the popular music hall of fame and i will have no problem with it anymore, but as long as you leave rock and roll in the name the blasphemy just keep getting worse and worse. jay - ****ing - z.......WTF Must we have this tiresome conversation every year, with salty folks annoyed that Rock and Roll includes and always has included folks other than white dudes with guitars? The album rock radio format is only a small part of rock and roll. Um... why did you bring race into this? wrong, totally wrong. rock and roll IS rock and roll. you cannot use semantics to change it, it IS dudes (black and white and yellow and red) with guitars, keyboards, drums and microphones...... jay z.(rap) mary j. blige,(rap) ll cool j, (rap) dionne warwick, (adult contemporary) fela kuti, (world music) replace them with warren zevon, carly simon, america, and jethro tull Would you do me a giant favor and watch this little bit of video, and then tell me, with a straight face, that Todd Rundgren doesn't deserve to be considered as a performer: Again, I accept that he's not likely to be inducted as a performer, but he is and always has been an amazing performer. Todd's problem is that he has such a wide range of skills that he's not taken seriously enough for any specific one of them. Even people who hate him, like Andy Partridge (who's never been able to forgive Todd for saving their career) acknowledge his skills. Andy said "He has the people skills of a Dalek, but is a God among arrangers." The J Geils Band, why are they blacklisted Peter a Wolf solos are excellent. Do what the baseball hall of fame did. Vote in nobody same here for that putrid list Gary Lewis what about him Paul revere and the Raiders she is in with the supremes, right? You're thinking of Mary Wilson I was talking about him being a performer, entertaining an audience. Ask anyone who saw Todd's band Utopia back in the late '70s whether or not they were entertained by someone committed enough to climb a pyramid of poles, straddle it doing a guitar solo and then backflip off the freaking thing. Does Bruce Springsteen need to do that power slide on his knees thing? Probably not, but the fans sure love it. Does Stevie Nicks absolutely have to twirl around with a bunch of scarves? No, I suppose she could just stand there and sing, but I think most people would object. LL Cool J currently has more votes than Kate...How depressing. The podcast Who Cares About The Rock Hall says that according to their insider, Kate was at the very bottom of the polling the last time she was on the ballot. I'm not the tiniest bit surprised. As a Kate fan of very long standing, I've never expected her to catch on with the masses, and if I'm being honest I probably prefer it that way. Can anyone tell me why/how the Stray Cats have never been brought up for induction? Obviously, I'm biased, as I'm a massive fan, but they single-handedly brought rockabilly back as an influential form of music, and "Built For Speed" was a runaway success. If Devo and the New York Dolls can get nominated with little to no commercial success, the argument for the Cats to be in can be made. Todd Rundgren is a two-hit wonder, Kate Bush had no real mainstream US success. If you don't want to nominate the Stray Cats as a band, you have even less of a reason to give as to why Brian Setzer hasn't been nominated as a solo artist. The man revived TWO genres of music and has had massive success with both. He/they certainly deserve it before we start talking about hip-hop and rap artists. With a list like this, this nominating committee is just flipping us the bird. No Jethro Tull - Jethro Tull have sold an estimated 60 million albums worldwide, with 11 gold and five platinum albums among them. They have been described by Rolling Stone as "one of the most commercially successful and eccentric progressive rock bands." (source Wiki) No Boston - The band has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, including 31 million albums in the United States, of which 17 million were from its self-titled debut album and seven million were for its second album, Don't Look Back, making the group one of the world's best-selling artists. (source Wiki) No J. Geils - One of the most popular touring band of the 70s. But we get Devo - a one hit wonder band and The Go-Go's who sold a whole 7 million records, had one big hit and a lead singer who sold more records and played to more sold out shows than the band itself. Give them the bird right back - by ignoring this place. Err... did she just say that Elvis Presley's cover of "Hound Dog" was racial and gender appropriation? This can’t possibly be the first time you have seen or heard that assessment... Not that I recall. I think I'd remember something so absurd. Elvis didn't even get his version of "Hound Dog" from her. He picked it up from some lounge act. Hence the lyrics about catching rabbits. Not that it would matter. Yeah, you're really displaying firm grasp of the history at play, here... :wtf: Is Aretha Franklin's biggest hit gender appropriation, too? It's the gender appropriation part that is a first for me. And hilarious. I love Big Mama Thornton, but Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote Hound Dog. So if there was such a thing as racial and gender appropriation, she committed it. Good thing there is no such thing.

I just checked out the 2021 nomination list and I don't like most of those bands and artists. The New York Dolls are just a KISS ripoff, so let's just induct Paul Stanley as a solo artist instead!
(seriously, any list that gets fans of non-inducted mediocre 70s RAWK bands so mad is probably a pretty good list)

The Dolls are a KISS ripoff? We are going to get Chris Devoe over here to set you straight. Todd only graced one of those with his genius.

Christmas break 2008: I had gotten the Cream box set which was great but then over the next two weeks I would learn about the existence of various albums and artists and basically begin a whole new journey of musical discovery. What a great time. Funnily enough, it took me about a year or so before I actually got a Fela Kuti album but that's because his reissues were switching labels and for a brief moment his albums were scarce.
