jann wenner, who we all know controls the rock hall, let it get out of hand when it started to stray from rock and roll artists years ago. when they open the rap hall of fame does anyone really believe that the beatles will get in?

I thought The Beatles invented rap?

Rap was invented by the Monkees, Frank Zappa, and Bob Dylan. The first appearance of rap? "Zilch" - if you examine the rhythm and accents of the vocals you'll find it is the same as the foundation groove for most hip hop and rap tracks. Mr Dobalina Mr Bob Dobalina... Think about it. 4 parts keeping a vocal rhythm with words. Plus it's completely acapella (no musical backing) and very humorous. But I really do believe the rhythm on Zilch is exactly the rhythm of most popular music today. zooka zooka Bow a zook a zooka Bow. Dylan's SHB has a melody and even if it is mostly a one note melody it is still NOT rapping. It also has a country bop rhythm to it. Not at all what The Monkees did. There are no musical notes in Zilch at all. So find me an example of this with that homeboy rhythm that pre-dates The Monkees and you will easily convince me that I'm wrong. Otherwise just picture the Monkees with baggy pants, bling-bling, guns and flailing their arms as they are rapping and you might see what I mean. Except that "Trouble Every Day" (which is much, much closer in form, if we're going to be comparing white-1960s-rock-manifestations-of-future-African-American-musical-trends) beats it by quite a bit. I think Bob Dylan may have been the first "rappper" if you will. Some of his Talkin' blues.

Actually, this might be the best list of nominees in years, maybe of all time. Only Radiohead, Bon Jovi, The Moody Blues, and maybe Dire Straits flat-out suck. On the downside, those are also the four most likely to win, but maybe Jann Wenner's attempt to "diversify" the voters by adding a couple of dudes under 40 and a guy with a deep suntan is paying off. First time seeing this thread and those were my thoughts as well, but I do like the first Dire Straits album, Brothers In Arms I bought on CD and traded it in, and I have the live album Alchemy on cassette and it leaves me in a coma. I may not be a huge fan of all the others, but I think they all rate consideration. I see the shameful comments by bartels76 in a post by My Avatar Is A Hot Babe on page two of this thread. I'll admit until late last year I was ignorant of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, but one of her tracks showed up on the Blind Roosevelt Graves station I streamed on Google Play Music and one of her videos showed up on a music playlist for Big Mama Thornton on YouTube. Now I adore the lady. She's attributed with influencing Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix among others and you think that The Eurythmics should go in before her?! The idiot further disgraces himself by not knowing who Link Wray is. I do enjoy the comment by FrixFrixFrix in that same post.

I think Bob Dylan may have been the first "rappper" if you will. Some of his Talkin' blues. Dylan invented both rap and the talking blues, apparently. TOP THAT BEATLES

Looking at all the inductees- what the fujk do Tupac, Etta James, Joan Baez, among others have to do with rock? Yet my Carpenters still aren't in? Seriously, you're grousing about Etta James' rock credentials and stumping for the Carpenters? this is the qualifications? ....explain ELP and Jethro Tull then....with hotel california, stairway, money, satisfaction..is there a bigger radio staple then aqualung or lucky man? Monkees. Nesmith was a Country Rock pioneer, on top of everything else. He should count his blessings that his band got in. I know he sells a bunch of records to soccer moms but no way is his band in the same league as the Moody’s, the Cars or Dire Straits. These are bands that were different, took chances- not pump out rock anthems. How many guys like him? He's there for he gals, he's no ac/dc

This is the new round of, 'how can these acts be nominated, they're not Classic Rock'? Deja fucking vu.

with the new 'single' criteria (which i believe jann wenner has instituted to keep a whole lot of 60's and 70's bands out of the hall, but still keeping saving his face by acknowledging them) i think wenner is paving the way for the 80's and 90's bands to get in. he wants new audience, and he will not get it with warren zevon, carly simon, steppenwolf, and the MC5. so he can add 'werewolves of london', 'you're so vain' 'born to be wild' and 'kick out the jams' without adding the whole band. The way it's going, might as well get ready for the Hooters, Billy Ray Cyrus, Rick Astley, Mr. Mister, Tiffany, Tesla and ah-ha. The Bangles in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Turn in your man card. I just went to the RRHOF site and perused the inductees. It's a freaking joke Tull or the Moodys weren't inducted 10 years ago!

jwb1231970 is truly the biggest tard there now rjp is a close call to jwb. In fact I know of no poaters with letters as avatar names that are not douchebags. Every poat I've ever seen by jrp is idiotic (see above)! He's whining because some acts from a bygone era, not as ancient as his own, are being nominated in the Hall of Fame.

I demand the Moodys be retroactively awarded an induction along with the original class, and I intend to march on down to the Hall and protest if this does not happen. In the meantime, I will be boycotting ALL rock n roll and I suggest you do too.
