I asked him that and received a 14 day gorf approval for all posts as punishment for what I thought at the time was a joke. Now I’m convinced it is true.

What are the chances STeVE nicked Clair Marlo's Fostex R8?

In a fit of Christmas cheer I listened to a Clair Marlo song on YouTube.
Absolute shite. Calling it bland is an overstatement.

"My old girlfriend, the singer Clair Marlo (yes, HER!!!) had one. I loved that thing. Mixed onto a Teac 6100. It was so cool. I got very creative on it."

What are the chances that Clair Marlo has never actually met Steve Hoffman? And what are the chances Steve never mixed anything on that tape deck? He couldn’t keep it minty if he ever used it.

Hoffman and Marlo dated for anywhere between 4 and 6 years in the early 1980s, per The Tales Of Hoffman. The R8 was launched at the end of 1988, per Sound On Sound's archives.

No, after. But definitely before his three way with Charlotte Rae and Conrad Bain.

When was STeVE's liaison with the dwarf from Oz again? Day after the Xanadu office party when Olivia Neutron Bomb thrust herself on him and the entire crew.

Also bear in mind that by 1988, Steve had already been shitcanned by MCA and was at the start of his career remasturbating to DAT from domestic equipment for DCC.
I'm surprised he didn't borrow the R8 to record Cecilia Ann, rather than the quarter-track Sony he says he recorded it on.
