I do believe that many years back, I read an article about the so-called loudness wars, and an actually well-known mastering engineer said "I do what the band/label wants or I don't eat". The mastering engineer is just another cog in the machine. I think it's just who STEVE is. If he was a fry cook at McDonald's, he'd have all these stories about having lunch with Ray Kroc. Come to think of it...does he have a story about meeting Ray Kroc already? Four way lunch with Steve, Ray Kroc, Harland Sanders AND Dave Thomas. Steve paid, because he is one of those millionaires and could afford to.

And it was after that meeting with STEVE that Kroc came up with the idea to have a clown with bad hair and a shitty outfit as his spokesman.

At some point, during the great Brandi-LeAnnesque Wars of 2017, Karla became something of a public figure for a very narrow and motivated crowd that enjoys this kind of Real Housewives crap on Twitter. The Hoffmans have kids in the same age range as the tabloid idiots, they went at the same schools, and Karla was in touch with both women, trying to act as the mutual friend who would broker truces, while inserting herself into the narrative to gain some fame for herself.
Given that Karla’s modeling days are anything but documented and may not be very prestigious she didn’t want to look just like a regular trophy wife for a senile guy from the audio industry but like an actual designer and accomplished business owner. So, she started this extremely ugly and pointless fashion line, that also gives more exposure to her kids as models. We had discovered the site when it was launched, and it looked like a pedophile wet dream. It doesn’t look like there have been many developments since the launch but it still allows her to pose as a professional instead of Steve’s future widow.

Mastering engineers are subject to “artistic temperament” Not if they want to work. I think I’ve said this before but one of the biggest disservices STeVE has done is create this mystique around what a mastering engineer is and does. I just had a neighbor who moved out of our building who was a recording and mixing engineer. I told him about Hoffman and his site, and a) he never heard of the dude b) he thought it was funny as hell that a mastering engineer would claim to have a creative job in any way. I told him that near the end of his career he was more of a mastering consultant and my neighbor laughed out loud.

They go in and tidy up and make everything nice so things are acceptable for the people paying the bills. It's a necessary thing and yeah, someone who doesn't know what they're doing can do some harm, but let's not make it sound like they are the artists here. STeVE has always struck me as a frustrated producer who wants desperately to have a signature sound that people beg him for and who's opinions are treated like gospel itself.

STeVE has always struck me as a frustrated producer who wants desperately to have a signature sound that people beg him for and who's opinions are treated like gospel itself. I think you have worded that better than anyone and hit the root of Steve's issues. He likes to inflate his importance because he deep down inside assumes he is something so important and better. In reality also, anyone could've remastered those Ray Charles and Buddy Holly albums back in the 80s and would've made them sound great - the tech had finally enabled some poorly reproduced master tapes to be presented more authentically. Remember a CD and Vinyl or whatever is just a reproduced master, in the 1950s they cut records quite badly. in the 1980s the mixing desks and audio tech allowed better reproduction of what was contained on the tapes to be pressed to vinyl and CDs - So Steve was just in the right place at the right time. In some ways i hope Steve does one day finally touch the Beatles catalogue - so then everyone will realise he is a fraud and nothing special.

"I just play everything in standard tuning. I'm already messed up as a lefty playing righty (how I was taught). Still, I ain't in a band so it doesn't matter.." Steve Hoffman, Yesterday at 3:16 PM#63

Steve Hoffman, Yesterday at 3:16 PM#63 Some lefties that managed to play righty: Duane Allman Robert Fripp Mark Knopfler Johnny Winter Steve Morse Shawn Lane and a bunch more I'm not saying any of them is STeVE's equal, but still.
