I'll bite. What's Maccafans deal? An almost VIOLENT and EMPHATIC belief that Paul McCartney is the GREATEST HUMAN BEING THAT EVER LIVED.

I'll bite. What's Maccafans deal? In a nutshell, being Paul's very own Mark David Chapman. Obsessed fan numero fucking uno.

Oh God, is that the thread where they spend pages discussing the "my salamander" line for the 10000th time?

Oh God, is that the thread where they spend pages discussing the "my salamander" line for the 10000th time? I'm pretty sure the goddamn "salamander" and "dustbin lid" lines come up in every fuckin' McCartney discussion, as clockwork as an Arnold Grove "Bip Bop" reference (I won't say "joke" 'cos they're not funny). So stick another zero or two on there, Dave.

Carl Swanson should be in the running. Is he back? He left in a grand manner a couple months ago.

Andy Zax was on my shortlist of people who might be Tin Ears on the old forum. He was always good value. No bullshit.

eddiel said: I don't wonder why they leave, I wonder why they even bother wasting their time on a geekazoid forum where even fans of their work could be annoying, probably more so than those who don't like their work.
Zax responds — I bother wasting my time on a geekazoid forum because I am allergic to misinformation about projects I am involved with, and I prefer to try and clear it up when possible rather than allow it to metastasize. Because I am, despite your insinuations to the contrary, "sympathetic towards consumers," I'm willing to answer reasonable--and sometimes even unreasonable--questions about that work when I can. It should also be noted that I have an exceptionally high tolerance for pain.
eddiel said: His response was b-s and if you want to suck at the teat of industry insider so you can have them around, go ahead but I'll call b-s when I see it regardless of who it is.
Zax responds — I don't require suckling, especially not from incorruptible fountains of b.s. detection, probity, and the-man-can't-bust-our-music such as yourself.
eddiel said: You of all people should be sympathetic towards consumers who are disadvantaged by licensing issues and personality defects of many rights holders who often don't release something simply because they can't be bothered to do so (not saying that is the case here, but you know that happens).
Zax responds — I've addressed this many times here, and if, after 302 (and still going...) pages of this, you find me insufficiently sympathetic regarding these issues--with which I am intimately familiar in ways that I can assure you I would prefer not to be--then I can only apologize.
Throughout this long process, I've argued vociferously on behalf of making the Woodstock audio available to the broadest possible audience in a variety of traditional and non-traditional ways. Sometimes things worked out as I'd hoped and sometimes they didn't. Everyone involved knew going in that no one--including me--was ever going to be perfectly happy with everything. We all did our best.
eddiel said: Yes what the OP was saying was that if he can't have it, then no one can. You aren't sorry at all because if you were your response would've been more along the lines of "I know its frustrating but licensing issues are a nightmare". Instead you said he was having a hissy fit and that he has entitlement issues (along with so many others on here).
Zax responds — I have since corresponded with Kat privately because I felt I'd been intemperate and wanted to clear the air. We're good. I'm not going back through the thread to check, but I'm pretty certain I have more-or-less said "I know its frustrating but licensing issues are a nightmare" (or expressed similar sentiments) on numerous occasions.
eddiel said: If there's one industry that has entitlement issues it's the music industry, so we're in a pot calling the kettle black situation here.
Zax responds — Are there people in the music business with entitlement issues? Yes. Am I in the music business? Yes. Does it then follow that I have entitlement issues, or that I am obligated to defend and endorse people in the music business with entitlement issues? No.
eddiel said: His comment about piracy was valid. You want to block it, go ahead but people will try and find it one way or another. All he was doing was pointing out a fact. No point in blaming the messenger.
Zax responds — Never said it wasn't valid. Feel free to refer to my comments on this from July 2019: [links to old post]
eddiel said: You are asking consumers to maintain a modicum of perspective for an industry that has continuously f***ed us over and over and over?!
Zax responds — The perspective I would ask consumers to maintain is this: despite the fact that the music business has never been--and is unlikely to become--a shining beacon of perfection, that doesn't mean that every project that emanates from the music business is the product of rapacious vermin who wish only to fleece you. Ninety-nine percent of the people I know in the music business care deeply about what they do and could have achieved vastly more success and security in other fields. Try not to feel rejected by this, but: none of us has the slightest interest in "f***[ing you] over and over and over."
eddiel said: You must be living in the 80's and doing lines of coke off your mixing board if you actually thought writing that was a good idea.
Zax responds — I live in 2020 and I've never done a line of coke in my life. What I mostly do is work insanely hard on things that I love. I view that as both a privilege and an obligation. (The delightful conversation we're having is an unfortunate byproduct of the latter.)
eddiel said: I expect your position is largely informed by your location. Although there's the odd title you can't get access to digitally, it pales in comparison with the hurdles faced by those outside the US. You should take some of your own advice and get some perspective.
Zax responds — My position is largely informed by solidarity with anyone who's ever dealt with this issue. My comments were intended to express my empathy by explaining that I often encounter the problem myself. I didn't claim that my discomfort was more profound than anyone else's--certainly not yours. I was simply trying to say: "yes, I've experienced that, too, and it's frustrating." Which would seem to me to be--wait for it--the very essence of the perspective you accuse me of lacking.
eddiel said: I find both your responses so annoying, that if I could get away it, I would start a thread with links to torrent files for this entire set purely out of spite.
Zax responds — And the people in the music industry whose livelihoods might be affected by your spite don't matter, right? Because they've got it coming to them, right? They "f***ed [you] over and over and over," so it's totally cool, right? That's some excellent perspective you've got there.
eddiel said: And please do not respond to this post as it'll save me from having to be annoyed all over again.
Zax responds — Sorry about that, chief.
