I think there are three or four cds of quality Van material spread across some 40 odd albums. I say this as an ex-Van obsessive. That's all everyone ever need. I gave up to listen his best of CD halfway through

I know very little about Van Morrison, but he strikes me as the type who wouldn't mind having his fans die off. THIS

Drew condemnation for Northern Irish politicians for it, they've got nothing more important to do right now I guess? Sometimes it's best not to respond to the fucking lunatics.....

I can't imagine anyone taking life advise from Van Morrison these days, but yeah, politicians who are concerned with the health of the population they supposedly serve are right to call him out. Social distancing sucks. It is no fun. Etc.. But countries that took Covid seriously early on are getting back to relative normal, and places where people can't grasp the consequences that their actions have consequences are getting more and more people killed. We can't ignore these bastards. We have to call them out.

Evil usually exploits an opportunity that's naturally presented rather than invents. Hitler exploited the depression for his own ends, as an example. I'm not denying Covid at all, but in the UK the talk is within a few months the restrictions will essentially be attend work and socialise with nobody else outside of it. Essentially moving the dogmatic structure and exploitative nature of the mills and mines of the Victorian era and bundling it up into the post-tech world. Those who don't believe that people in power are jerking themselves off at that prospect are seriously deluded. I'm fine with my freedoms being curtailed in order to prevent the spread of Covid, but I can't be the only one who thinks the right to see family should come before working.

So what? Is anything that Van sings going to change anyone's mind one way or the other? Amazing how this has triggered some of you. Van Morrison has a right to his opinions even if they are wrong or not completely thought out. I swear this virus has brought out the fascism in everyone. And the hypocrisy. Rock and roll was always about questioning authority, but all of a sudden we’re not allowed to question anyone who wears a lab coat— even though they all got it wrong in February. Look it up. And when the subject is recreational drugs in rock lyrics , there are many on this very forum who say something along the lines of , “Its up to the individual. We can’t tell people what to do.” Also, this Mask Cult has gotten out of hand when you regularly see people driving alone — with the windows up—wearing one or a guy out standing on the middle of an empty parking lot talking on a cell phone or a person hiking through the woods. It is getting really stupid out there. At least, in the US it will be over sometime in November.Oh and before you accuse me of not caring about you or your grandma, I follow the rules and wear the mask when and where I’m supposed to and in my state, that’s pretty much everywhere . But I’m sick of this and it’s turning everyone into hypocritical selfish scolds. Good on Van for speaking his mind. Who told you Covid would be over by November in the US? Your incompetent, ignorant, wicked President? Good luck with that. No, he didn't. But you are naive if you think there isn't a political component to all of this. And worry about the UK. You haven't a clue to what's going on here.

I know very little about Van Morrison, but he strikes me as the type who wouldn't mind having his fans die off. I saw him in Vegas on New Years eve fifteen-twenty years ago, and he stormed off stage at 11:55 because he was annoyed by the enthusiasm of the crowd. The venue didn't even have a chance to drop all the balloons and whatnot they had prepared. He hates his fans. I saw him once many years ago, a stout man grunted his way through the performance, didn't say a word to the audience (or any of his band members) and broke a guitar string three times. That is all I remember, really.

I've seen him something like four or five times, because a friend of mine is a huge fan who goes to Paris when he plays there, and I usually get a free ticket for me from the local publicist.
His funniest performance was a joint bill with Bob Dylan, where they would swap spots every other night, so one night, you had Dylan as the opening act, the next time, it would be Van, etc.. That night, it was Van who opened. He would sing a couple of songs, then go backstage without any warning to anybody, then return to sing another couple of songs, etc. The band leader yelled "Mr. Van Morrison" every time he left the stage, while the band kept on playing, so the audience would remember who they were supposed to watch. Word got out later that Morrison was simply pissed off at the audience, as some people were just there to see Bob, who had released Time Out of Mind the year before. It was for him a crime of lèse-Morrison, and that's how his tantrum would play out.
