Hahaha... the biggest music forum on the net and they can't even handle discussing a Rolling Stone list!

The scary part is that What's Going On might be even more relevant today than it was in 1971.

I have 358 of the top 500. Where do I pick up my Antifa badge?

What's Going On has been referenced and praised a lot at least in the last ten years. It's a pretty obvious choice.
Otherwise, I personally hate these stupid ranked lists. Rolling Stone's top 500 means about as much to me as any random shite's top ten.

Critical consensus is kind of interesting to me, but oddly it appeals to the SHiTEy side of my personality. I can't imagine actually finding new music I would want to check out from a top 500 list because I've already heard damn near all of it. But the way it changes over time and what albums gain stature over time is interesting to me.
My favorite cranky SHiTE on one of the nuked threads couldn't believe that no Phil Ochs albums made the cut. I wish there was a way to explain you don't need Phil Ochs if you've got What's Going On.

For that matter, critics themselves change, As the old wispy haired David Frickes die off they're replaced by people who have actually listened to music released after 1975.

I've certainly listened to DAMN or To Pimp A Butterfly a lot more than Dark Side Of The Moon or Pet Sounds. I don't know if I've even played Dark Side Of The Moon since 2003 or so. Can I be the first to congratulate you on reaching Steve status and your celebratory new avatard 👏 I had to change it as it was annoying the fuck out of me. this seems more apropos.

At this point the only geezer rock critic I'd pay attention to would be Meltzer if he felt he heard something he had to write about. And I doubt that's going to happen again. Otherwise any critic worth listening to has to be on the younger side.
I think it's funny that the SHITES seem to believe that it is a bunch of geezer critics pretending to like stuff like Beyonce. They can't imagine a world where shit isn't decided by boomer dudes.
At least they still have US politics.

I wonder what would happen to someone who went in and said. “I believe the greatest album of all time has yet to be recorded.”

I didn't mean to imply Beyonce was anything but great, just that SHiTEs think people are boomers who share their tastes or are being disingenuous.

Gntra starts another thread on the Rolling Stone list. Jelloza's comment leads me to believe he is beginning to see the light. "It may be best to close all threads related to Rolling Stone magazine being more inclusive with their list of the Best Albums.
My thread was shut down after about 14 pages, and the other one was shut down after about 46 pages.
Some of the members I had respected for their music or sonic-related comments in the past really showed their true colors on those two threads - so offensive that I may need to take a break from Steve Hoffman Forums now that I know what some of you really think about the issues of the day."

That's something I come to appreciate. More and more I'm finding that just because something is good doesn't mean I want to play it over and over. I can't see myself listening to folklore too often, as a whole or as individual songs (Betty aside...) but that doesn't speak to the quality of the album.
