Those seem kinda fishy to me. No official credits, requires a good bit of detective work to ascertain if a particular pressing is "his", and the sonic similarities between "his" and Roger Nichols'. Couldn't tell ya- I've never heard the masterings purported to be Steve's...maybe he forgot he did them, if he did them at all...

Jamie Tate seems to believe that Hoofy has the Aja master tapes (this was first posted on SC back in October 2019).

Yeah, it's Aja, more specifically Black Cow and Aja (the song). The liner notes to the early 2000s Aja CD reissue include an imagined phone call about the responsible party:

Good old Maggie takes a swing at the boss in the myth busting thread:
"How about these ones, which have been proliferated by influential members here?
Thelonious Monk played the way he did because he was mentally ill/losing his mind.
Nope. There is much documentation of Monk's explanations of the theoretical basis for why he played the way he did, including that he was trying to free up the harmonies by leaving out the 3rd, that he was trying to achieve microtonal effects by playing adjacent keys, and that he was trying to displace the normal placement of eighths to force his sidemen to pay attention and thus learn the melody correctly, etc. Myths about Monk tended to proliferate because he was taciturn with the press, but he explained himself fully to the musicians he worked with, including Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, and Steve Lacy, all of whom were master technicians who had complete respect for him."

No, he still takes credit for them, and there are plenty of references to them in the pertinent threads. I have both discs, couldn't begin to hear a difference from the other MCAs by Nichols. My point is that I now believe StEve-O didn't master anything by Steely Dan and allows the forum to roll with it.

I call BS on that one. Steve isn't influential.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now Friday night and time for a few Shites to gather in a little thread, and find a very, very careful way to fall all over themselves discussing the new Bernie Grundman-cut vinyl set from Joni Mitchell WITHOUT DARING TO forget to mention how freakin' fantastic some older goddamn version of one of these albums that Steve mastered was, is, and ever shall be.
Do you think they can do it? Is it possible to enjoy and publicly praise a new "BG" cut of Blue, when there is a blessed "SH" mastering of the same content out there in this incredible world? How many ways can they find to say the new BG one is great yet also mention, lest Huffy notice, that they listened to the SH one oh, about five times just last week and in fact ordered several new copies of the SH version that just came in. Because seriously, isn't any new mastering of something SH previously mastering, just in the end a good reason to mention how stunning SH's work was?

Hey, you sell music here at the SH Forums? Read this quick note.
"You must state a firm price, no offers.
You CANNOT use Paypal Friends and Family.
You must grade with SH Forums approved grading, no other.
Thanks." Steve Hoffman, 51 minutes ago#1
