When I was a kid, my friend John's mom worked at Metromedia. This meant KTTV Channel 11 here in town and she used to sneak us in to tapings all the time, even at night. There was this show that we saw in person a few times, it was THE LES CRANE SHOW. Les was a good looking radio personality and he had an hour on TV a week to talk about what he wanted. One week that I was there he had Rod Serling. I remember sitting about 7 feet from him and feeling thrilled that I was so close to the "Twilight Zone Guy".
At any rate, John and I got to see a taping of LES CRANE which had the hottest music producers in the USA at that time. Phil Spector was on the show as were Greene & Stone and two others that I have forgotten completely about.
We sat very close to Phil and I remember that Les Crane's wife Tina Louise sat right next to me on the bleachers. (In my Butthead voice: "I'm sitting next to Ginger, that's cool!")
Phil Spector was going on and on about Bob Dylan. He was saying that Dylan's songs were wonderful and totally non-commercial. My buddy John thought otherwise and during the question and answer segment, got brave, raised his hand and (maybe because we were sitting next to Tina Louise) Les called on John. I couldn't believe it. No one said anything about two kids in the audience even though the ticket said no one under 21 allowed. The camera swung around, the bright lights came on, a big boom microphone swung over and all eyes were trained on us. I could have peed in my pants (but I didn't.)
John asked Phil Spector this: "If Bob Dylan only writes non-commercial songs, what would you call "The Mighty Quinn"? (Currently a hit on the charts by Manfred Mann).
Spector looked at us like we were bugs he wanted to squash. And he pretended to pull a ticker tape out of his mouth, look at it and said "I have no idea'.
Heh, stumped him.
I'm sure there is a video or audio tape of this show somewhere. I would really like to see it.
The ghost of John Oteri destroyed the mastertape.
When John Oteri and I started hanging around NBC Color City (thanks, Mom for driving) we got to see HOLLYWOOD SQUARES. They taped like 4 shows at a time. Each time we followed the stars to their dressing rooms and no one stopped us. I remember Wally Cox was 10 sheets To The Wind by that fourth taping. So was Rose Marie. So weird how no one stopped us as kids. I guess everyone figured we belonged to someone on the set.
At KTTV Channel 11 we got to see a few LES CRANE SHOWS (being underage meant we could get in no problem, go figure?). First one was with ROD SERLING. I sat about three feet from him during the show and he chain smoked the entire time. This was in 1968. We also saw the show with PHIL SPECTOR, GREENE & STONE, etc. Les' honey at that time was GINGER (Tina Louise) and she sat right next to me in the stands every time. She liked us for some reason. They took us to dinner one night I kid you not. Tina ordered Bangers & Mash.

So, whose mom was it?
And that's just one example of where the piece isn't accurate.
So, don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

I mean, Phil Spector told me (he was also on the plane) that the pilot came over the intercom several times to tell the passengers that there was quite a reception waiting for them at the airport. This was in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. And that's just one example of where the piece isn't accurate.

Phil was on the plane with OUR BOYS. And he told STEVE exactly what happened that day.
What if STEVE is a giant sack of shit that should have died from Covid-19?

What if on the way home from the House Of Blues, the girl took the bottle of Tequila that she brought with her and drank the entire bottle in the limo, getting ****-faced drunk? What if she wasn't the "angel" the press has made her ("poor struggling actress taken advantage of by unscrupulous record producer")? What if she started drunkenly bitching about this and that until, after they got to Spector's place, Phil was so fed up with her that he ordered his chauffeur to take her immediately home? What if she said "No" and went in the second entrance foyer and sat down and refused to budge? What if she opened a drawer and found one of Phil's guns there? (He had one in each of the entry ways to his house in case of robbers or something). What if she grabbed the gun and put the barrel in her mouth and imitated an obscene gesture while Phil stood there looking aghast at her? What if the gun went off in her mouth but the bullet was so friggin' old that it didn't even come out the other side? What if the Alhambra police showed up and didn't believe a word Phil told them after the chauffeur who was not in the room called them and told them that Phil did it? What if Phil only said to him "Call 911" but he called the police instead? What if the chief of police made a statement to the waiting press that Phil did it and they arrested him because it was well known that he loved guns? What if the local coroner STILL has not finished his findings on the body even though it has been many months? What if Phil had no tracings on his hands of having ever fired a gun that night? What if the police are dragging their feet because they are trying to figure out a way to nail him for this, even though it was really an "accidental suicide"? What if the police are constantly interrogating Phil's friends and associates past and present, looking for something, anything to nail the guy with? What if Phil Spector's (and lawyer Robert Shapiro's) friends are so mad about this that they finally spilled the beans about this weird case? What if STEVE is a giant sack of shit that should have died from Covid-19?

Well boys, the other scenario is that Phil Spector, after having a nice evening with the girl, eagerly drove with her to his house so he could immediately blow her brains out the minute she stepped in the entrance way. Why did he do this? Well, he's crazy old Phil and we all knew it would happen someday. He had a psychotic episode or something and Phil loves guns. Remember how he threatened his ex-wife and shot a bullet into the ceiling of a recording studio once in the 1970's? He finally snapped, that's all. This is the theory of the police.Tunnelvision!

Believe it or not, Phil doesn't have any spin doctors.Except maybe STEVE.
They have known for months. They ain't talking. Why not, do you think?
STEVE said:
Of course they know how it happened. The police tested her hands and Phil's hands for gunpowder residue a long time ago, they have the toxicologist reports on his blood alcohol level and hers. They know the angle of the bullet, etc., etc. They have known for months. They ain't talking. Why not, do you think?
The Police is trying to frame Phil, just for being Phil! But inspector Hoofnuts is on the case.
A part of Forum life is taking risks and making a stand. Based on Steve's first post on this thread and now, his last, I believe Phil to be innocent of any criminal wrong doing. Now, that being my belief, I am at a loss to explain the behavior of the Police and the Court system beyond speculating that the Police do not like Phil for some reason. Perhaps, the Police know they lack sufficient evidence to make the charges stick, are afraid to make it public because of negative P.R. and are hoping that the case quietly fades away. I do not know....

I know Phil and I feel sorry for him and this mess he's gotten himself into. He explained what happened though and I believe him until it's proved otherwise. Other folks want to string him up right now.To know Phil, is wanting to string him up..

Met all three (member of Wilson Philips) along with Mama M. & Brian at Phil Spector's final (though we didn't know it at the time) bowling party at that Art Deco alley.. Hard to believe now...Hottie Mama Michelle was there folks. And Brian too. He was still humming along to that tune from Smiley Smile.

Spector has got to be one of the most unpleasant and repugnant people on the planet. I respect his contributions to the art but jeesh, what a jackball.STEVE said:
You've met him? How many people on this thread besides Todd and I have actually had a conversation with Phil? Thought not. pdenny said:
I never met Mussolini either, and I'm sure he had many pleasant conversations with some people along the way. Spector's decades-long history of gun-toting, abuse of women, wacked-out behavior in the studio and now possibly homicide lead me to think he's a singularly unpleasant person. STEVE said:
Slander is slander. Unless one has first hand knowledge, you are just repeating what someone else has told you.Hearsay. It's fun and all to spit on the guy now that he's in deep doo doo but you realize I actually know and like the guy, right? Known him for years and years. I first met him when I was 12 years old and have kept in contact with him all these years. I feel for him. His nasty "backtalk" is a defense mechanism that a high school Psych major wannabe can figure out in 10 seconds. His backtalk makes good press I guess. But really, do you think I would choose to hang around with someone so vile as is painted in this thread? Am I a masochist?
I guess we can trash anyone we want on the Internet any time we want but on my Forum let's try to have a little restraint in this matter. Phil is Phil. Most of us accepted this years ago, just like we learn to concentrate on the good things in our family members, etc.
Is STEVE a masochist, he asks you? I'd say he's more of starstruck douchebag.
