I'm an audio nerd. And I'm telling you, there is absolutely no sonic reason to buy expensive speaker cable. Buy it by the foot off a reel at your local hardware store.

I bought a big reel of generic speaker wire at Menard's a few years ago and it's served me well ever since. Probably five bucks. I do recommend banana plugs though for the back of a surround receiver, just for convenience purposes. Those are cheap as shit too.

The place I bought my first decent stereo at in 1982 gave me all the lamp cord I wanted when I bought my stereo. I told him my speakers would be about 10’ apart and he gave me a good 30 feet off a roll. They went on to sell actual speaker wire but back then he said old mom and pop hardware stores were cheapest and they all sound the same anyway. I’m sure a few years later he would tell people a different story, but he never tried with me. When I upgraded my speakers he gave ma another 30’ or so when I asked with no hassles or upwelling, either.

Lamp cord was the standard speaker hi-fi connection before the world went completely insane. I have seen old McIntosh manuals that recommend that lamp cord be used for speaker connection. To this day, the best (and cheapest) speaker cable you can get is a heavy duty AC cord from a hardware store. Just cut it half, cut off the plug ends, strip to expose some wire, and you are good to go. Also, there are much nicer color options these days than ugly brown. COLA, if you ever come across that manual again, it would be great to put a copy of it up over there. It is just (more) solid proof that snake-oil salesmen have completely taken over their hobby.

I read that whole page. Very interesting. SO GLAD I was born skeptical enough not to be taken in by all the bullshit high-end audiophiles base their entire existences on. (The AudioQuest cable ads made me want to vomit into my mouth.)

Then to justify the horseshit they claim if you can't hear a difference then you just don't have the ears (pal), while implying you're just not wealthy enough to afford the "good stuff".
Some components and speakers are better than others, but most of the perceived differences in speaker cables, interconnect cables, and power cords are about as legitimate as one of Hoofy's lunch stories.

When I first got deep into audio, I fell hard for all the cable stuff, etc. I figured that there must be real evidence if so many people were into it. I’m thankful it didn’t take me too long to realize the insanity of it all.

I especially get a kick out of the Morrow threads and some of the Morrow apologists who wholeheartedly buy into that 500+ hour "burn in" odyssey you must endure, before achieving super transparent and revealing sonic bliss.
Of course, you could just pay Mike Morrow six million dollars per meter to burn them in for you.

Those aftermarket cables for their sound systems are no different then the dickheads who put aftermarket shit on their cars. Their personal touch justifies their bad taste.

I've got an old DVD-A, etc player with two sets of analogue outs. Years back I tried some, I dunno, £30 cables and some supermarket cables and just switched which output I was listening to. I couldn't tell the difference. There isn't any danger of the supermarket set pulling the sockets out that they plug into either.

There isn't any danger of the supermarket set pulling the sockets out that they plug into either. £1 SCART leads and Monster SCART leads, I could tell the difference. £1 HDMI leads and £10 HDMI leads, I can tell the difference. RCA cables, I've heard a differences between supermarket and £30. Beyond that, rapidly diminishing returns. USB and RJ45 cable, fuck off. Perhaps I have the eyes but not the ears?
