For what it's worth... The song in question IS Now And Then. I believe, from Jeff Lynne's session notes, that George would have added guitar and vocals to a bed track. The issue back in 1995 was that the cassette demo had a loud hum that proved most difficult to overcome. Some argue George was against a third reunion song, but that wasn't true at the time of recording. The plan all along was to have three reunion tracks; one song for each Anthology set. George's sourness didn't happen until after Real Love was released as a single. I'm not a huge fan of John's demo for Now and Then, but that doesn't mean a finished product wouldn't be a worthy addition to the canon. I'm guessing and hearing a few things that a revamped Anthology might be a BIG event on Disney+ before Christmas. Does this effect a proposed Rubber Soul Set? I suppose it will. Maybe a late summer release, with promotion for the Anthology project? Or will it be pushed off to 2024? Which SHOULD be the year for an expanded A Hard Day's Night set that includes BBC, live recordings and studio outtakes. Wish I knew the Plan! Ron A few things to remember and ponder. Now and Then was not a one-off session. I think some folks are confusing this with the "other" song "All For Love" attempted at the reunion sessions. Now and Then was the second reunion song attempted in June 1994. Further session were then held in February 1995 and abandoned, supposedly because George thought the song was "rubbish". I think it may have been more related to the hum and rather distant Lennon vocal, but that's just opinion. There seems to be ample opportunity that Paul, Ringo and George added lots of instrumentation to the song and any possible further work over the years was more embellishment. Bonus track on the CD single. Let’s throw out some fodder for the herd…… If this song is released as a digital (or even physical single) , would they add Carnival of Light as a b-side/bonus track for ships & giggles? :laughup: Well, there is "room" now for 'Carnival of Light' Paul, do it man! Release a Now And Then EP with remixed Free As A Bird, Real Love and JL Anthology version of Grow Old With Me, also Carnival of Light as bonus track already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! never thought I'd live to see a McCartney III album released. Not only did we get that, but "Now and Then" is finally coming out too! There is always something cool to look forward to with The Beatles. Now if we can just get "Carnival Of Light" as the b-side, my mind would truly be blown!  |

One idea not yet considered is using the sons. Yoko, Linda, and Pattie have all added 'oohs" and " aahs" to Beatles tracks. How do we feel about Sean and Dhani doing the same? Again, I'm just talking about thickening oohs and aahs - no solo lines, not there to replace dad's vocal but to add to the fullness. I don't believe that AI will be used as vocal replacement for anyone, it's there to remove hum and piano from John's track - but for argument's sake, do we prefer AI generated oohs and aahs, or for the sons to come in for 90 minutes to blend their distinctive voices? No trickery, they'd be given credit for background singing. I think my recollection about All For Love, based on a quote from Jeff Lynne, was wrong. Also, I said earlier in the thread that Lynne went on about the Friar Park sessions, it was in fact, director Bob Smeaton who said they played all day and everyone had a blast. Funny thing is, after specifically mentioning I Saw Her Standing There and Thinking of Linking, the other tracks are from the ukelele jam. So who knows what else was performed and/or recorded? Though it appears Love Me Do was at least busked inside. A small portion of this is in the Real Love video. Ron |

I recently sold all my Beatles elpees that aren’t the core albums and Past Masters. Everything else - the Anthology sets, BBC sessions, Let It Be…Naked etc - was just a waste of space, and now there’s even less obligation to pick up a minty copy of whatever they reissue that includes Now & Then.
It will be absolute gash. No question.
