Because you were a kid in the 1970s who didn't hear a lot of music beyond the top 40? I loved Macca through 1978, then got into FM radio and learned there is good music besides the Beatles. Some SHites eventually get there

I will probably never read that McCartney Legacy book but I am following the thread and it appears the book reaffirms that our rock n roll MACCA could be quite unpleasant to work with. IDGAF, neither doofus nor dick, the music is good and that's what I'm a fan of.
I did just relisten to the Rockestra session. It's hilarious knowing that he brought in this star studded cast and then hearing him play his demo for them. They must have thought "he really called us all in for this lame little rocker?" Jeff Beck wisely chose not to attend. Keith Moon apparently said he'd rather be caught dead than play on it, which unfortunately is what happened.

I kind of remember a documentary on the 9/11 concert where he was cajoling Townsend, Crapton, etc. to play that godawful Freedom song, and their contempt for Macca oozes out

The trend seems to have died out thankfully.
I realize Do They Know It's Christmas and We Are The World started it all, but tracks like those were few and far between otherwise for years.
