There are of course, more choices than Trump or Biden. You don't *have* to throw a hail Mary with Biden, but I get why others might. I just find a war criminal hard to get behind, even if he's not a racist. It's Green Party for me. I suspect on Wednesday November 4th and the autopsy begins on Biden's failure to be elected, I will be blamed for his loss, Bernie will be blamed for his loss, the people who choose to stay at home will be blamed, everyone will be blamed who didn't fall in line. But fuck it, I don't owe anyone my vote.

This shitshow of a press briefing today is one of the most terrifying spectacles I’ve ever seen.

Was that before or after the Wisconsin result? Because hoooo boy, he's gonna be even more tantrum-y after that.

Serious/tedious note from a serious/tedious old Poli Sci grad who has read/studied a LOT about Germany in the 1920s and '30s:
It used to be dirt-common to hear *nice* people marvel at the inabilty of leftists and liberals to co-operate during that period in order to defeat the National Socialists at the polls. It must have been so clearly evident, it was thought, to realize that it would have been easy; combined, they held a commanding plurality. And it must have been equally clear that the stakes were terribly high. Life and death.
Of course no such co-operation occurred. Their mutual distaste and distrust split the opposition and so permitted a result that was more than just an electoral defeat. Quite a large number of those parties' leadership didn't even survive to see WW2 let alone survive the war itself but of course that's a relatively minor point.
In hindsight, it was readily seen by academics and other 'tastemakers' that the Germans simply revealed some sort of sick flaw unique to their culture. This offered an easily digested explanation: maintaining the rule of law (and the other fundamentals of participatory democracy) was rejected in order to pursue more primitive expressions of nationhood.
Surely cooler heads would prevail in a wiser, better country with a healthy culture. Or so my betters always taught me...
I think I understand the frustrations being expressed; I myself wouldn't like to vote for someone as right-wing as Justin Trudeau, and luckily didn't find myself needing to. But in the present circumstances I beg Americans to reconsider the Pyrrhic victory of a protest vote that propels Trump back into office.
Yep, just as Hitler's shouty-boy Little Colonel persona deflected serious analysis, Trump's rolling reality-TV-fake-drama-disasterthon distracts from the cold hard progress being made by the Republicans. But even here in this forum I don't think it's truly understood just how little will be left after four more years of the dull, grinding background work of an ultra-right judiciary and, in the real world, the petty bullying, threats and beatings of the gun-toting *patriots*. The result will be institutionalized McConnellism that will leave no decent person unscathed. And I genuinely fear for women and "minorities" (as they are called by the white supremacist mainstream who are the true advocates of minority rule).
One foresees a VERY difficult situation to turn around. It will take some shocking suffering and perseverance. And some wounds won't heal.
So, since it's easier to fight fascists before they control the police and the bureaucracy, hold your nose and stop them NOW. (You can --and should-- fight Biden after.)
[Yeah I know TL/DR but I don't know how to plead in a concise fashion.]

This shitshow of a press briefing today is one of the most terrifying spectacles I’ve ever seen. Agree absolutely. In the past four years I've gone from "what the fuck" to disbelief to outright horror, cringing at what could possibly come next from this unfit, inept buffoon.

I mean there are a ton of other problems with him, but I don't think he stands a chance. We better start thinking of other ways to fight fascism, because there is no guarantee that voting is going to do the trick.

They seem to have no concept of how unpopular Clinton/Obama/Biden establishment types are with a broad swathe of the electorate. Still, Trump is the wild card, he's just that shitty, even though among their field Biden is the most uniquely compromised and ill-equipped.

There is also the issue of Biden's dementia. Think what one will of Obama or HRC, at least they had their wits about them. Biden's declining mental faculties alone are enough for me not to vote for him. Don't want his finger on the proverbial big red button at all.

I like Biden and don't think he has dementia. Voted for him in the primaries, looking forward to doing it again in the general election.

Anyone who votes for Trump must have dementia.
Seriously. Look how that asshole has permanently fucked up the country in just four years.
And you think he’s worth another four years because Joe Biden has difficulty with public speaking?

Dementia, racist, gaslit, you name it but many of the same people who will vote for Trump also believe Fauci is part of the deep state and somehow connected to Bill Gates who is apparently barely concealing his plan to wipe out large swaths of the world’s population in order to cash in on a new fangled bat soup vaccine.
It’s quite upsetting to me, to see people in my family gaslit by Trump. My father loves him. My cousin, asked someone on her FB thread not to refer to him with the spelling tRump (which is the poster was repeatedly spelling his name) because she found it disrespectful and further made an analogy that she would also not tolerate blasphemy on her wall either. Blashphemy!?!?!
FWIW, as far as Biden’s supposed dementia, I work with some folks who are highly regarded in the Alzheimers//dementia field (both in research and clinical practice) and asked them point blank about it and they said, essentially there is nothing in his behavior to indicate dementia although he is clearly past his prime - but what 78 yr old isn’t - what may be a factor is that he simply may not have the cognitive reserve that a smarter man might have, Clinton, for instance.
It takes apparently takes Joe some effort to speak without stuttering and, with age, that may be increasingly taxing for him.
