I'm with you. bro'. I'm not ready to suck Cuomo's dicck either. But it...just...well feels reassuring to hear a sane, rational elected official once in a while (these days). It's worth noting that in my lifetime, I've never felt like the states have been more divided than they are now. Not the people, necessarily. Especially after hearing that there were Black Lives Matter protests in all 50 states. In all the noise and craziness, that was an inspiring tidbit. (Although, between looters and curfews and potential military interventions, I think things have been overloaded to the point where the movement has been quelled quite a bit...) But beyond that, we have states with completely different playbooks for the pandemic. The federal government, rather than unifying the country, is continuing to be a shit show of epic proportions. So I look at Cuomo, and I feel like he's the one running the state, with no one above him really taking any responsibility or initiative. It's on his shoulders, and shit, it's not going great but it could be a hell of a lot worse. And now he's defending Columbus. Fuck, there's really no winning, is there?

May be somewhat tone deaf for the current times but I wouldn't crucify Cuomo over this. And I'm not Italian!

(This poat is gonna be veering into SHite territory, but hopefully not too far...)
Back in the early 80s, The Dukes of Hazzard was a show Iâd watch on Friday nights. It was simplistic, had good guys, bad guys, and was basically just a live-action cartoon. (It didnât challenge me, but at that age I didnât care. Bo, Luke, and Daisy were all pretty and Boss Hogg always lost.)
A few weeks ago, iTunes had a sale and was selling complete seasons for five bucks apiece, and feeling a bit nostalgic, I bought one.
The show was still everything I wrote up above, but goddamn, I was unable to get past the fucking Confederate symbols everywhere...
Yes, the Duke boysâ car had its infamous name and Confederate flag on its roof, but even the police cars had the flag as their front license plates.
Actually, the episode I watched had a black guy as a traveling dentist who helped the boys (so the show didnât really come off as actively racist), but other stuff definitely made it passively so.
The goofy shenanigans were mildly amusing, but I doubt Iâll be watching the rest of the episodes any time soon.
Now, as to why I put this in this thread, well after watching that one episode, I was rooting around YouTube and discovered that John Schneider â good olâ boy Bo Duke himself â is a freaking MAGAtard...!
I happened to stumble across his YouTube channel and he even has a music video that sings the praises of IQ45... (The song had a poker motif and he was singing about having the âtrump cardâ...)
The thumbnail for his channel shows him sporting a Confederate flag on his baseball cap, and a cursory glance at the channel shows him doing Fox News interviews, him with Kid Rock, and him bitching about how WB is wrong in no longer allowing the General Lee car to be merchandised...
So, it sucks to learn that a guy you once thought was cute is actually a full-blown asshole, and that the show that made him appear to be someone youâd want to know is hard to watch with 2020 eyes...

You should have bought the season where Coy and Vance replaced Bo and Luke.

Please don't tell me Cathy Bach is a MAGA-tard. I can't tell you what she did to the imagination of a 12 year old boy back in the day.

No worries, Sooze. I once considered Lennon as pretty cool until I saw him on TeeVee aping mentally challenged persons. Twice, IIRC. Following through, my realization was, he was an opinionated, wife-beating, smacked-out asshole. There you go. Dreams die hard.

I guess this kinda ties into something that I've been thinking about again lately. All these Confederate monuments and Columbus statues and other stone and marble effigies of slave traders and all around awful people. Maybe, just maybe, we should kill this tradition of idolatry altogether? Naming streets after people too. Sure, name a company after the owner. It's their company, makes sense. But beyond that, it's pretty fucking dumb and leads to shit like this. Or how about hospital wings? I have no idea who the people they are named after are, to the point where I don't even associate the name with the benefactor. And don't even get me started about naming a music forum after someone... heh.

He's a racist and a cretin. And his name is Steve Huffman to boot... I didn't realize that hygiene was a white thing.
When I was youngin', a Rick Lazio was running for senator (against Hillary "What about her emails?" Clinton I think). There was a black guy in the park, shouting out to anyone and no one stuff like "You ever shake hands with a black man, Rick Lazio?" which among my family mutated into the line "you ever take a bath with a black man, Rick Lazio?" Now, I'm not saying that every politician has to bathe with a black man. But whether or not they would be willing to would make for a good marker to judge their character.
