That is quite impressive. Putrid might have been harsh. I'm not up on my '70s wuss rock, but they are probably great at it. '70s rock that is not punk related is a real blind spot for me. Anyway, the whole point of my initial comment is that I have to turn in my serious music fan card.

I guess I need to realize that the majority of those buffoons are shut ins who seem to focus on particular faves. You have your Macca geeks, your Beatles geeks, your Monkees geeks. When I was on there it seemed to be a more well rounded group of assholes. Now it's filled with the equivalent of Tiger Beat magazine readers.

The ultra specific fandom over there is so weird to me. Peopsons who only listen to The Beatles disparaging new music they don't listen to, and then say, "Penny Lane sounds totally modern, like it could have been released yesterday." Well yeah, true if all you listened to for the last 40 years is Magical Mystery Tour.

I certainly have favorite artists that I have all/most of their albums, and others that I have only one or two albums, or maybe just a greatest hits compilation. But I've never understood only listening to one artist/band or even just one genre.
When I was in college, there was a guy in my dorm that was a complete Deadhead, who basically sat around in his room getting high and listening to one of his boxes of cassette tapes of live Dead shows. One day I asked him what he listened to when he got bored with the Dead. He pulled out his Bob Marley "Legend" tape, which was the only non-Dead music he owned.

Did he like to tell the story about the time he played with Richie Havens?

My brother used to work on a building site with some guy who would only listen to bands and musicians from Manchester. The sole exception was The Jam. But he gave no shits about The Beatles or The Who or Blur, just Oasis, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, The Fall, Happy Mondays etc.

Listen to whatever makes you happy but be well rounded enough to carry a conversation. Or else join some circlejerk subreddit or whatever.

I just saw Macca’s announced a remix album and among the artists trying their best to polish a turd is Phoebe Bridgers! This is going to be good 🍿

That is one of the things that struck me most when I joined there, along with the narrow-mindedness, which seems to be in all areas. I've come across people who won't consider listening to or playing anything other than jazz. I love jazz and think its musicians are usually the best, but the elitism of some jazz'ers is another version of- sucking the enjoyment out of music.

As much as I love jazz, and these days it's mostly what I listen to, I agree 100%. And the funny thing is most of the jazz musicians I know personally have much wider ears than their fans. So many mostly older mostly white guys think that taste in music somehow substitutes for a personality.

It doesn't.

Colin Allstations is very upset that "young musicians" like The Strokes are talking shit about blues rock. For the record, "young" Julian Casablancas is 42. Also, Colin manages to misspell both Phoebe Bridgers' first and last names when bringing her up in his thread for no apparent reason. In a few hours, they'll probably be whining about Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Megan Thee Stallion, too. forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/the-strokes-launch-stinging-attack-on-blues-rock.1069378/Maybe Colin's just trolling us....
