In my 30+ years paying attention to the Grammys I have never seen a more terrible list for the big categories. I don't care who wins. Especially in the Record of the Year category, those are all horrific songs.Yardbird said:
I looked at the Grammy nominations and it would appear that rock music is dead. The Rolling Stones' Blue & Lonesome release is recognized in the Best Traditional Blues album category. Dylan's Triplicate is recognized for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.War on Drugs might have a chance on the Best Rock Album.
Outside of that, it seems that Rock is taking a back seat to everything else.
Oh, for the days of what we now refer to as classic rock. How I wish they were back.

Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd so far is nice to see.Is The National really Alternative at this point, though?

They're an Alternative to Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd. bartels76 said:
Does Bruno Mars have to give royalties to all the artists he rips off? Now he's ripping off Bobby Brown.ToddH said:
This just feels like the rap and country awards. Do kaled is the most worthless crap thing ever.Darrin L. said:
Wow...they are totally slaughtering "Tears in Heaven". There's not a good singer in the bunch...just awful. Who are these people?Darrin L. said:
Why not just have Clapton do it.William Bryant said:
Can't stand it anymore. Flipping to YouTube for a little Mel Torme and Ella at the Grammy Show in 1976.Buggyhair said:
I can't believe Despacito didn't win song of the year. It's almost always the biggest hit that wins. Grammies is a total popularity contest. The Zodiac said:
Never heard of Sizzler. Not impressed.Manapua said:

Other than Hendrix and Marley, I don't think any of them should have.Buggyhair said:
More music, less feminism, please.bartels76 said:
Bruno Mars for Record, Song, and Album? God what a horrific year.ronm said:
Forgive my sour grapes but at age 56 I have no use for the Grammys. Its almost like on another plane of existence that I don't get.Buggyhair said:
Sorry, but there are more important things going on. A "theme" has nothing to do with a solution. Wearing a flower or black designer clothes doesn't do anything for anyone. It's nothing but show biz.And what about the male victims? That's what pisses me off the most - women making it all about women and forgetting that they're not the only ones affected.
Sanguinus said:
Except there's one problem. With Bruno, it's not a twist on a previous sound. It's a carbon copy.seaisletim said:
I hope Bruno is able to sleep tonight with all this criticismDarrin L. said:
Don't worry. People without a conscience sleep just fine.Darrin L. said:
That's my point. So little originality involved. But you are correct, he is the result of corporate greed, and not artistic vision. You really should immerse yourself in the artistry of those he steals from, and open yourself to a new world of musical wonder, rather than his shallow, soulless tripe.
DrAftershave said:
Seriously though, I like Bruno. He has some great songs and who can deny "Uptown Funk"?Darrin L. said:
Who can deny "Uptown Funk"? Probably those he stole the song from. Just another plagiarism lawsuit he lost.DesertChaos said:
You thought this show was about music? Jokes on you. Virtue signaling, unearned moral superiority, that's where it's at these days.Rosskolnikov said:
I'm saying that Kesha had some big brass ones to act/imply like there was a crime. For all I know there was, but give the court seeing it otherwise, she's opened herself to further defamation charges and possibly clouded more than helped what should be an important movement.krock2009 said:
An absolute disgrace that the've decided to have the Rock awards be presented in the pre-show.Veech said:
Bruno Mars is basically the only artist I cared about at the 2018 Grammy awards. Glad to see he got major props.Side note, what happened to melody?

Real Music is dead.Yovra said:
I don't think so....just listen to Pugwash's excellent Silverlake or Lars Danielsson's "Liberetto III" (depending on your taste) and you'll hear music is alive and well.melstapler said:
Good boys and girls never question the artistic integrity of music featured at the Grammy Awards. Those who do should be sent to mental reprogramming camps for treatment and reintegration to society.TNhillbilly said:
What a sad state for pop music. Hopefully we have reached rock bottomArnold Grove said:
The Academy members feel tremendous amounts of guilt when an artist (such as Leonard Cohen), long under-recognized by the Recording Academy, passes away. So they just vote to give an award, regardless of what the nomination is for, to that deceased artist. It alleviates their feelings of guilt, and they can sleep better at night. It has nothing to do with the actual quality of the music or the category that it is in.joepepitone said:
Thanks for the explanation Dr. Freud.joepepitone said:
Sorry, but I gotta say I thought that performance by Kesha was dreadful for a number of reasons. Is this what it's come down to, psycho babble passing for song lyrics.deadbirdie said:
Agreed. She would've been better off lecturing all the rockers & rappers in the audience about their misogynistic lyrics and videos. RichC said:
Yeah, how dare she criticize the man who sexually assaulted her for numerous years and then shut down her career with lawsuits when she refused to work with him.She should just shut up unless she wants to lecture rappers for their lyrics.... like God and Bill O'Reilly intended.

Yes, because them whites just cleaned house last night. :drool:Marvin said:
Yeah, it's not as if rockers from the 60s or 70s ever voiced any political opinions about anything...mbrownp1 said:
That was different...those were intelligent and sensible opinions.BrutandCharisma said:
Except those people were making zero money, were getting screwed by their record companies and were trying to avoid going to Vietnam. They really had something to protest about. What's Kendrick Lamar's problem? His Apple stock is only up 20% ? His limo is too short? Far cry from Jimi Hendrix and Country Joe and the Fish at Woodstock to Beyonce and JayZ at the 2018 Grammys.

Watch out lest you are called an "ageist" or a "rockist." I've actually heard both terms here. The second is particularly vile--for obvious reasons.Darrin L. said:
Well...plus there's the fact that these people enable and participate in the behavior they pretend to condemn. It's like Meryl Street saying she didn't know about Weinstein...what a joke! She enabled and remained silent while countless women were victimized. She's as guilty as he is. instead, she referred to him as her "God". They're a bunch of pretentious, sanctimonious degenerates.mbrownp1 said:
Most of the virtue that is signaled these days is completely misguided and rooted in an ignorance of history and true suffering....much if it a result of the severe decline of the US educational system after roughly 1989.
