I could write an extremely long and detailed post explaining a lot of stuff but my previous experiences doing so resulted in absolutely no change whatsoever in the strong uneducated opinions of those who have formed hilariously incorrect conclusions.
Instead of taking the info as an opportunity to learn, they either become defensive or when they see they have nothing to challenge what I just wrote, ignore my replies completely. So what's the use? A tremendous waste of my time is all that'd be.
So I just read these comments and chuckle at the ignorance and paranoia. [/quoite]
Having started a thread entitled Why disdain for "Let It Be... Naked?", the last thing Strat-Mangler wants is for other SHites to debate the issue.
Sometimes being a classic is a cop-out and certainly never an argument I use to justify something being artificially placed on a pedestal IMHO.
Casablanca is a crappy movie. The Scream is a crappy painting. The Big Mac is a crappy meal item. Etc. I judge things for what they are and don't really care about how it's regarded by others to excuse its shortcomings.
How's the weather in your dimension? Are the flying pink elephants still patrolling the skies above?
It must suck for a grown man to still not understand tastes are subjective.
Glad I don't live in your world where only your tastes are OK and whoever disagrees is ridiculed.
Yeah, I know. It's just that you're talking to a guy with with a life-long almost religious obsession (and huge collection) of Ingrid Bergman so stating that Casablanca is a crappy movie is like telling the world's biggest Floyd nut that Dark Side of the Moon is a crappy record.
Not an excuse. Why do you care that a stranger dislikes something you like? How does that impact you in any way?
Moreover, respect is the fundamental courtesy one should give to another member on a MUSIC msg board. Opinions with which you're bound to disagree with will inevitably occur. If you can't stomach those without lashing out, maybe you should turn off your computer and walk away. Your actions do nothing to encourage people to express themselves without running the risk of being ridiculed, all for disliking something you like.
When examined through this lens, I hope you can grasp how utterly silly this all is.
Well, I wasn't ridiculing you at all. It's just to me someone who thinks that Casablanca is a crappy movie probably lives in a different dimension that's all. I was joking about that, strange that you didn't get it. I also happen to dislike quite a few sacred cows from Sgt.Pepper to the above mentioned Dark Side of the Moon and love some universally trashed records (the list is way too long), so it's not a problem for me. The key is to keep your sense of humour about it all, that's all.
Although I agree the written language can lead to miscommunications, your post wasn't opening an exchange. Had it been worded in a way such as "Hmmm, that's an interesting comment. Would you care to share why you feel this way?" then a discussion can be had. Just blurting out I'm crazy is dismissive. My sense of humour is intact and I'm rather risible, yet I simply didn't react positively to having my opinion belittled regardless of intent.
We're good. I'd just hope the way you engage the next person whose opinion you disagree with would be different.
