Did I miss anything good or was it all like this? 90th Academy Awards/Oscars (2018)Won't watch because of all the big open loud mouths! That said, Hollywood has turned me off so much I don't really care who wins. Bummer! they forced Meryl [Streep, of The Post] on us again. I'm just sick of her.:righton:And her big mouth! Imagine if an American writer-director born in New York City wrote and directed a movie about a fictional small town in England, similar to Framlingham: Framlingham - WikipediaAnd what if that American director from a big city got lots of big and small points about small town life in England wrong? Do you think some Brits might have issues with it? My guess is yes. So here we have a British writer-director from London giving us his view of what people are like in small town middle America. I was born and raised in LA, but having lived half of my life in middle America, I'd say London-born Martin McDonagh, who has never really lived in the midwest, has about as much of an idea about the people in small town America as most big-city Americans have about the people of a small-town in England—in other words, not very much. I'd also say that most people from New York City have only slightly more insight into middle America than people from London—and, again, that's not very much. Again, how would a movie called "Three Billboards Outside of Schlepping, Suffolk, England" written and directed by someone from New York City, who portrayed the people of this fictional small town in England as strange and sometimes racist caricatures, play outside of the big cities in England? Anyone want to guess not so well.....? I'm standing, Common. I'm headed for the can.

It was mostly the Zodiac commenting as above. It looked like a pretty sparse thread comment-wise compared to previous Academy Awards threads, from what I saw of it. Highlight was Hoofy himself asking a Gort to move it to "Off Topic" so, "real people" wouldn't see it.

one good thing for me Kimmel is gone...Hoo-Ray! Yea, YEA, he's been gone but he left an EVERLASTING STINK IN THE ROOM... Hmmm... I could have a few Jack and Cokes and ****post here during the show.... but maybe not everyone is as amused by my comic wit as I am. I'll at least watch Queen open the show. See how it goes from there. If they start in with the "white people with clipboards" stuff again I'm out! Already a "wall" comment. Zzzzzzz.... How most of America feels about 50 times a day. Yeah it’s SO much better when da prez mentions it—for the 8000th time. The majority of my favorite stars are all dead. Isn't Aqua Fina a brand of bottled water? I didn't get to see any of the short subjects. Here are seven of them: I seriously doubt Barbara Streisand went to her local neighborhood theater to catch Black Klansman. yea, so much better than the F'n endless political digs from Kimmel for 2 years... which does not belong at the Oscars...my wife recorded it tonight... I actually thought it was better than the last few. Less wokeness and no lame humour from the non-existent host. I agree, at least they spread it around a little this time around. I think the only thing we saw too much of, was Whiskey Cavalier(although ya gotta admit, after 3 hours of Lady Gaga popping up over and over, getting to look at Lauren Cohen was a welcome treat). It must be so refreshing to have Lady Gaga giving hope to other plain girls, that someday they too, could be mistaken for beautiful, desirable women. Empowerment! Many better biopics, of course, but you all forget that Freddie is a gay icon nowadays and gay can't lose. For the most part, a political rally disguised as a ceremony. I am glad to see him pout like an entitled child when his film lost to Green Book. He tried to make an early exit when they announced best picture but the ushers told him to go back to his seat. I think Spike had a point. Which is what?, that he’s a sore loser? He could choose to make his message known utilizing a tad more professionalism. But, but, but , then he wouldn't be the spoiled, petulant, mediocre, little **** we've all unfortunately had to come to know. Of course it could be something else, he's just a jerk! Apparently you've missed the bit where it's based on a book. A book written by a white man, what other point of view could it, or the book possibly have? The other guy in the car was free to write his own book at anytime. As far as white savior, that's a slant some reviewers have decided to put on it,. because apparently you can never virtue signal enough. No OTHER country on EARTH cares about the colour of a person's skin. GROW THE %^*$ up. The Hole Got Fixed is Canadian. They should've taken him out back and given him a beatdown. Dudley Morris is Canadian. Wow, the make the oscars great again vibe is strong here. 30 years ago Do The Right Thing was generally regarded as easily one of the best films of the year, and won a number of awards (even Ebert picked it as the best film of the year). However, because of racism it wasn't nominated at the Oscars for best picture.

They can all comfort themselves with children’s cereal and children shows from when they were children, and bands from their childhoods made up of kids making music for teenagers, and never have to do any real thinking that causes discomfort. They can cocoon themselves in nostalgia and nail their doors shut. They can pray for a strong father-figure to banish the scary new things and the changing world. They can weep for an America that never was. SHites, man.

So I have not seen and will not see Bohemian Rhapsody. But I have to ask everyone what the deal is with this seemingly wretched movie getting so much acclaim. Is it because Queen is the de rigueur band right now? I keep hearing Malek does a good job but the other idiots seem like cardboard. And they're getting roasted for giving it best film editing unless it's simply for the Live Aid scene?
I mean, really?

Christ, it has all the charm and flavor of a high school extra credit film project for history class.
My kid sister likes Queen and I was even gonna offer to take her, but she heard it was "trash" and didn't care enough to want to go. Looks like we dodged a bullet.

Try some substance rather than a passive-aggressive use of the much hackneyed race card. I turned off Do the Right Thing about half way through when I rented it back in 1989 and never bothered to see it again. I think Spike Lee really isn't that talented. The only movie that he directed that I enjoyed is the documentary 4 Little Girls. So it’s not your taste but it is a wonderful film No, it really is. By and large, the people who don't like it are racist. Riiight that's what it is, it couldn't possibly be that one thinks, a film is just bad, it's all racism. And if you didn't like Moonlight you must be a homophobic racist. And if you didn't like Wife, you're a sexist, and obviously a member of the dreaded patriarchy. I shudder to think what one must be if they didn't like Schindler's List. No, I wouldn't say that any of those other conclusions are valid. Spike Lee's film's make white racists uncomfortable, which is why they don't like them. Not everybody who doesn't like them qualifies for this, obviously, which is why I said "by and large."

Common is a regular customer at Dusty Groove here in Chicago. Found myself crate digging alongside him a few times. Super nice fella, total Jazz nerd like myself.
Plus he ruled on the otherwise patchy Hell On Wheels series.

95th Academy Awards (March 12, 2023)Why would anyone subject themselves to 3 hours of narcissistic speeches, woke prophecy, and virtue signaling?
