In Ever Lose A CD.... In Your Own House
Oh dear

Not a CD story per se, but still somewhat relatable to the thread I suppose.
When I was really young, I remember my dad had a secret spot to store six of his favorite cassette tapes in the basement of our old house.
(Metallica - Ride The Lightning)
(Dio - Holy Diver)
(Judas Priest - British Steel)
(Blue Oyster Cult - Agents Of Fortune)
(Testament - The Legacy)
(Scorpions - Love at First Sting)
There was a somewhat noticeable crevice between several of the bricks in the wall, which would open to a small cubby (or niche) when pryed open (about 4x smaller than your average safe.) Only it didn't lock, it was just there, hidden until someone happened to discover it! Which my dad did, and he cleverly used that to keep his special tapes so he would never lose them. The rest of his cassettes were all scattered about in the car, or in the music room. Needless to say, the ones in the car were eventually never to be seen again!
So we lived there for a good 10 years. My dad seemed to move away from his love of music when we finally moved out, so he had kind of forgotten about his "holy grail" of tapes until a few years after we moved. One day, suddenly he says: "Oh... S**T! I forgot my tapes back at the old place!" He never mustered up the courage to go back and get them, (since someone else lived there at this point) so he settled for buying the CDs of the said albums. :nyah:
Now here's where it gets interesting. I drove by that old house last summer, which happened to be for rent! I called up the owner, told him I used to live there when I was younger, and said I had something interesting to show him. And he was interested to see what that "interesting" thing was.
So eventually I stopped over the next day, we shook hands, and I entered once again to the first abode of my childhood. I looked around at everything, the walls were a different color, the carpets and tiled floors had been replaced with hardwood, so much had changed! But Straight ahead, that big red basement door seemed to be left untouched.
As I approach it, the owner says: "Now what could be so interesting in that old bunker?" I told him: "Wait, and see!" I shined my flashlight along the walls, trying to remember where exactly that old crevice was located. I was saying to myself: "I know it wasn't just some dream, I vividly remember seeing it here."(I think the owner may have thought I was crazy at first!) It was a fairly big basement, so it took a while, but when I finally saw it, I gasped in amazement. "Aha! There she is! Now, check this out." I went to pry the crevice, and at first it didn't give or budge. After all, it had been over 17 years or so since it was last used. So after a few tries, it opened up with a rusty "creeeeeak!" Lo and behold, there were the six my dad's long lost cassette tapes, covered in dust, but still sitting there nonetheless. :goodie:
The owner was stunned. Not about the cassettes, but about the hidden niche. "By God! I never even noticed that "thing" was there!" He exclaimed. He said he wouldn't tell any of his future tenants about it. :shh:
So after all that, I thanked him for letting me stop by and show him the interesting little detail. Gosh, what a day!
When I got home, the first thing I did was see if the tapes still worked, the Priest and Scorpions ones were worn out the most, since those were the two my dad played the most. And the BOC one barely played, the rest all played flawlessly. Now I keep them as a souvenir, a little keepsake of my dad (R.I.P) and that old house. I think someday I'll create a similar niche in my current basement, and put a selection of my "irreplaceable" CDs in there as well! :righton:
Thought this would be a fun story to share! :wiggle:
