So much for knowledgeable salespeopleWas walking through the very limited CD section of a well-known, big box retailer today. Noticed they had their Steely Dan CDs filed under "D" for Dan...which is almost understandable. Then I saw they had their Led Zeppelin CDs filed under "Z" for Zeppelin. Yeah...Walmart. Your mistake is expecting someone working at Walmart who's probably in High School or a dropout in their early-to-mid 20's making minimum wage to be knowledgeable or care about the music they're stocking. Never underestimate the newly arrived in America employee who really doesn't know about rock music from that era because they just weren't exposed to it. They see led Zeppelin and think it's some poor guy named led.

And I found the New Rose label CD "Lyres Lyres" by the Lyres in a used shop filed under Classical. Completely understandable given the fact that the young woman on the cover was holding said instrument. I didn't chide them about this when they rang me out about because I knew I was probably the only one in my area, apart from whoever traded it in, familiar with the band. As far as looking through the CD section in a retail store and criticizing their filing system, fuck that. Life's too short. |
