Arnie's three "jokes" (which he must have told 5000 times each by now).... 1. Bip Bop. That's the joke. Geddit ? Ha ha. It never gets old does it. 2. It's the trousers. 3. Coming soon.... Just repetition of these phrases day in day out is what Arnie seems to believe is comedy gold. Here's his recent hilarious contribution to the current Wings Wild Life thread. He has received 5 "likes" so far for this pearl of wit and wisdom. Go on, say it again Arnie. It cracks me up every time.

Sorry, Mr Idle, Monty Python The Rutles is not. IMO The Rutles was a one joke idea that got ridiculously overplayed.

I watched it when it aired the Sunday night after Eric Idle appeared on SNL on NBC. A promo clip was aired that night so viewers were aware. I thought it was funny that night, but then I watched it on VHS sometime in the mid 80s and hardly laughed at all. Might be that I wasn't using the same substances that time that I was prior. Maybe the SHites haven't made that adjustment.

Do the Beatards actually realise that The Rutles was supposed to be a satire?
Often they seem to portray them in a similar way to crap like Badfinger and see their music as valid as, or superior to, other bands from the 60's and 70's.
The Rutles were what they were - a light hearted spoof made for short term amusement in the 1970s.
The fact that that Bonzo Dog Breath bloke continued it (without Idle) long past its sell by date is another matter - but if SHiTes lap it up why not.

I saw "The Rutles" live about 12 years ago or so. A fun gig. (hides under chair).

The Rutles is a bunch of funny bits intertwined with a bunch of not so funny bits. The song parodies are brilliant. But some bits, like the Decca guy played by Dan Ackroyd, go on way too fucking long. We got it the first time he coughed. Seeing snippets, I still get a kick out of it. But to watch it all start to finish? No way.

I think even the best monty python moments get stale when people insist on repeating them, like you've never heard them before. The parrot sketch? Was that funny? I don't know because I just remember the amount of times someone felt they had to recite it. Interesting that you clearly take an interest in the Beatles, yet find a lot of the Beatards as irritating as the rest of us. I have to admit, I have retained somewhat of an interest and knowledge of the Beatles myself since I first got into them as a kid. But if anything a lot of the Beatards put me off wanting to listen them, rather than renew the desire. Is it the case with you that it's not so much, the subject matter as the mentality of a lot of them Beatards?

I love The Beatles but I find those people absolutely unbearable. What's funny is I find that even when I've ventured into those threads...they kind of ignore you if you're not part of the gang. It's like a closed club...not that I want to be in that club mind you...but still. You get kind of a weird vibe from them if you post in those threads.

They take the fun out of everything, and with a vengeance. Collecting and listening to music is supposed to be FUN. If I was maybe starting to forget that for a while, various things over the past two years have reminded me of what a joy this whole hobby can be. I'm currently in between jobs (well, kinda sorta. It's pretty silly at this point) and music has been a nice reprieve from the stress of that, and all the build up over the past 12 months of hints and signs and whispers (actually, the writing on the wall was pretty clear but some folks really love to live in denial) over the demise of this job. The original Rutles film was pretty clever, if not quite worth repeat viewing. I always liked Get Up And Go and Cheese And Onions. There was a second one done in the nineties that was pretty miserable. The whole thing has been overplayed, and it comes off as sad and lame as any Billy J Kramer or some other Beatles associated act still working the circuit at this point.
