The stealing, the lies, it's all documented. I guess that's why he's revered in the biz.

That's the beauty of this one. There's no hearsay or "I heard" or "he may have". Such a coincidence that I find this site, sign up, poke at the morons that made my experience there terrible, and just happen to see that poat and say "wait... I've heard that story before". And since Jim Ladd is still in LA, perhaps he's had a run-in with Huffy he'd like to discuss.
As an addendum, I read the blog post that was linked here. The theft of master tapes, the stories that change by the minute, the whitewashing of opinions...like I said before, I'm not some mastering nerd, I just wanted a place where I could talk music in my free time. He wasn't even on my radar until I came here to talk about other posters like the DVD thief, the retyred guy, and the origin of my SN, Zoot Marimba. When I read all that and then saw the story of someone else's he told as his own...that did it. He can anoint my buttocks with thy kisses.

I never believed STeVE's story but knowing that he stole it rather than simply made it up is even more deplorable. Unless STeVE sold his stories to Jim Ladd like Kramer did to Peterman.

And here I thought STeVE at least had some talent in spinning yarns on his own.
Very disappointed in his tall tales now.

Guys, help me out here, please. There was a thread that had a post by STeVE where he mentions being on the air at (and paid by) a volunteer-run radio station where he did 2 airshifts on 30 minutes of sleep, only to be woken up and made to play a tape left by the SLA? I can't find it now, but... Thanks so much for digging this up. Always seemed to me to be one of Stoov's dearest memories -- and so therefore absolute horseshit. Grateful to have that example of his pathological lying documented. (Must have been quite an experience for the guy who actually experienced the SLA's 'invasion'.)

I'm glad you enjoyed it and I'm glad to have done my part. You know what put it over the top? The "electronic media" part. I believe STeVE listed the networks in the exact same order as Ladd did. If you're gonna steal, at least try and mix it up a little. I thought he knew a thing or two out remixing. Yikes. Sigh.

"This thread won't last long* so I'll post.
The government is welcome to spy on me. I couldn't care less. They can tap my phone and my computer and my life. They would be snoozing in no time.
I don't trust the government, but I've never trusted the government since I was a college San Fernando Valley hippie wannabe. Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change. Still, this is really a non-issue to me. You think the spy agencies don't actually like SPY on people here? Is this NEWS to anyone? Spies have been like spying on people for centuries. They are welcome to my world.. Heck, I probably have a big commie FBI file for when I worked at Pacifica Radio and found the SLA Patty Hearst tape under the mattress at the back alley of KPFK. The Feds watched us all for months after that. Big deal, so they could watch me living with my parents, playing records and eating at Taco Bell. That probably made a real interesting dossier. :sigh:
Such a non-story.. Steve Hoffman, Dec 21, 2005*"

I wonder how he felt when the boys from MCA were taking a long, hard look at his lying, thieving ass.

The Lying Sack of Shit said:
No, no, no, no, no. STEVE is NOT asking if you have any videos or photos of your 78s. STEVE is telling you he has an E$XTREMELY RARE 1927 rekkid. He bought it for $1.00 when he was in High School. This rekkid is now worth A SHITLOAD OF MONEY. And you llttle shitstains who call yourselves members of my personal little fantasy factory DO NOT have one of these, do you? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Now nuzzle my nutsack. AHHHHHHHHH. That's better.

Did Daddy post a pic of his? No one paid a dollar for a 78 in the 70's. You could have bought a pallet of them for a dollar. Used vinyl records weren't usually more than two bucks. You could buy the new versions for 3.99, and no one cared if they had an original pressing or not, so you couldn't sell a used record for that much. Just bootlegs and some really hard to find stuff, but I can remember taking a 10 dollar bill to a record show and coming home with more than ten decent records (condition wise - I'm sure a lot of the music wasn't much to speak of).

A local antique shop rents booths out to dealers (over 300) and one of them is a blues/jazz booth with 75% 78rpm records. I bet they haven’t moved a 78 in as long as they have been there, but the prices are fairly cheap - 50 cents to $2 on bigger names (Louis Armstrong as an example). The “normal” albums - 33 1/3s and 45s - are way over priced probably to compensate for the lack of sales. The guy also has a big selection of Edison wax cylinders which are covered in dust and pushed under a display table. I wonder how old STeVE was when he bought his first cylinder?

STeVE received his first two "cylinders" from the Pucci brothers. That's why they tolerated his dad. And now, history is repeating itself. Like father, like son.

In 1992, I was paid to take away a crate of 78s. It turned out there was some nice dance band stuff in there.
