Another day means another chance for STeVE to be a douchebag..: Think I'll play the Blue Album today, see how my Audio Fidelity stuff handles it.. Which album are you referring to? Post number one in this thread, written by me. FUcKNUTS probably means Audio Note, not Audio Fidelity. Music always sounds better on a fistful of vicodins.

A sure sign of idiocy is claiming to hear differences in DACs. They're all good now.

They're just jealous because they can't afford it.

I have opened up thrift store finds that look better internally than that.

Every decent reviewer these days says to save money on a DAC because they all sound good and they change every two years. I think Guttenberg even said not to spend more than 100 bucks for one, and he can be a real sucker for some things. I haven't even figured out a reason to buy a DAC yet. The one in the CD player seems to work pretty well and my phone over a Logitech bluetooth adapter seems real nice for Spotify. I probably need to think of a way to spend more money so I can get better sound.

Also, for home audio,if you connect to an amp or AVR via analog, the players' DACs are used, if connecting digitally, the amp/AVR DACs are.

I demand a totally black background, a huge juicy bottom end and enough creamy midrange to gag me on the first shot.

That's some fancy wiring for a 43k box.

A gorilla walks into a hi-fi shop and asks for a DAC. The salesman says, "That'll be $43,000. Say, we don't get many gorillas in here" The gorilla says, "At these prices I can see why."

So, did STeVE, Vidiot and Doug Sclar film, produce and run the sound for the NYE celebrations last night? See, technically, since LA is closer to Australia, they had THEIR New Year first. And it was better than YOURS. They hob-nobbed with the jet set ALL night. Heh.

Driving the limo I mean.

16 bit digital has a very strong limitation. It cannot reproduce accurately any analog recording I feed to it. I wish this was not so, but it is. I've mastered THOUSANDS of compact discs from analog tape and not one is exactly the way it should be. Close, but no cigar. Most people would never notice but most people don't have an analog master to compare the signal to. I've written about this many times here. The strongest limitation of all. We mastering engineers deal with it, try not to bitch about it too much, but to say it doesn't exist is just stupid. This is much more of a limitation than worrying about groove spacing. Believe me, I wish this was not so, my life would be easier but the time wasted creating compensation for the less resolving playback is time I could have spent doing many more fun things, like having sex. Guff has mastered THOUSANDS of cee dees? I call total bullshit. Maybe people more in the know could come up with an actual number, but I'd bet he hasn't more than a couple of hundred (if that). And once again, STeVE is no mastering engineer. He is (or more accurately was) an EQ consultant. He needed to have a real engineer there to do the actual technical stuff. (It's self-congratulatory tripe like this that makes me glad Stereo Central exists. I'd get myself banned over there if I couldn't vent here.) Steve is a 24 karat asshole. (I know you’re already well aware of that fact. I’ve been an SC lurker since the old board.) However, I’ve been wanting to chime in for a while and say: I think you all are giving that idiot too much credit by calling him an “EQ Consultant.” It’s too generous, even if you’re being sarcastic... Maybe he can twiddle a bass & treble knob on a cheap 1970’s stereo. However, he’s not capable of making corrective EQ decisions, let alone dialing in mastering curve. That’s why he needs an M.E. to babysit him. Honesty, I’ve heard his “solo” work and to my ear it sounds shitty. Often, it doesn’t translate too well. I think a teenager using Audacity and pair of headphones can master better than that nitwit. He’s also full of it when he says 16/44.1 cannot replicate analog. 16 bit is oversampled beyond what ANY normal human being can hear and has no problem reproducing 20 to 20. Also, it’s transparent to use for all sound reproduction. Therefore, if MR Flat Transfer is pumping shit quality in, that’s exactly what he’s gonna get back. Don’t blame the format if you don’t like what you hear. Anyone with audio engineering basics can call him out on his bullshit. I ask, where is the science to back up his claim? What tests and measuring equipment did he use to validate? Those golden tin ears of his? He’s f*cking delusional and pumping out Tom Scholz style nonsense in an attempt to impress clueless Shites. In fact, there’s a way one can calculate analog into digital bit rate. From my understanding, the best analog machine can produce approximately 12 or 13 bits. Gee Steve; Next time blow your “bad breath of life” on those “16 bit drink coasters” before you send them to your jizz guzzling fans in Shiteville.
