Just listened. As I said before, I like to listen so I can at least give an educated opinion. Dunno, sounds like bad New Order, and man those are some clunky lyrics.
He’s still hung up on consumer goods I see. Personal Shopper is pretty lame.
But if you like it enjoy. My opinion is pretty worthless.

I kind of like a lot of Steven Wilson's music and by extension his old band Porcupine Tree. What I can't stand is the hero worship at Shiteville. He's just as renowned in audiophile circles for remixing albums in 5.1, particularly 70s prog albums. Anyway, if you ever dare open one of those remixerabting threads for the likes of Jethro Tull or Yes, it's wall to wall cumshots; I'm not kidding, the giddiness rivals the good old days for when a Hoffman disc was announced. gary191265, which Wilson music isn't prog? I'm not sure I'm catalog, but most of it sounds really retro 70s that sits squarely between Genesis, Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons. Cola would hate him. This new one is not prog. Which is why Claus is losing his shit.

I say this as a New Order fan, but if you think his lyrics are worse... yikes!

Bass Communion IEM His output with both of those projects is more Krautrock/Drone. Blackfield and No-Man are Pop -Rocky type stuff (though the new No-Man is far more similar to The Future Bites). The last time anyone tried to catalog his catalog, it was a 400 page .PDF document. That only went up to about 2008. I wouldn't have said Deadwing or In Absentia were particularly 70s prog influenced either. The fan boys are utter wankers that would rather him make their favourite album of his, endlessly.

I remember now. I did download a Caravan album that had a Steven Wilson remix on it as some sort of "bonus." The remix was the typical antiseptic, soul-sucking pointless exercise that these things invariably are — for a track that in no way required a remix of any sort to begin with. What do you earn for remixing an old Caravan track, anyway? Twenty-six shillings and a tuppence? Therefore, fuck him. The Dukes remix he did really sucked the fun out of it. But I’ll admit to being a total fanboy of Leckie’s work.

Would it wake me up after listening to 'Hand Cannot Erase'?

I get a small kick telling slobbering SW-worshipping prog fans how and why his remixes are lifeless suckfests. He's become the go-to guy for a lot of bands looking to generate some more cash from their old catalogues, but he's way fucking inconsistent and overrated. Apple Venus Vol. I is in the works now from what I hear. I would think it would be hard to make a shitty surround mix out of that....watch him do it. Jakko Jakszyk's even worse.

Too bad he didn’t hook up with Paul Hicks instead. I think he’d do a bang up job for both stereo and 5.1

I'm not a Steven Wilson fanboy, but I do think he's released some decent material. One of my favorites is an album that most of the fanboys don't really like. Probably because it ISN'T a chops filled wankfest, but has more catchy and concise songs like this:

Well, give this one to Wilson. FWIW, he made Tull's Aqualung listenable, and in the process, made Hoofy's fanboys lose all interest in their Host's razorbladey DCC Aqualung.
The only Wilson mixes I've heard are in surround and although he changed a few mixing choices from the original releases they sound fine to me.

Say what you will about the SHites (and we surely do), but this guy’s selfless action of distributing an exclusive track for all to hear rates very highly in my book. I can’t imagine too many of the folks over there would be as generous – especially after shelling out £10,000 (albeit for charity). I’m glad this guy got the edition for his own collection. He's on the latest episode of a podcast I listen to. He doesn't sound like an asshole.

Again, if Steve was such a fuckin' LEGEND how the hell come I never heard of the fuckin' guy until I stumbled across his silly goddamn forum? Grundman and Bellman are names I actually recognize. Hoffman? Not so much...
