In almost 56 years walking this planet, I have never, not even once, looked at what label a particular album is on to decide if I will buy it or not. Or blindly buy based on who put it out. This is craziness. I was basically that way with Discord in high school, and I might as well be that way with International Anthem now, but only because I loved/love the scenes they cover.

Sure I can see when Stiff or Sub Pop was in their prime but as you said it's more scene related than anything. You're probably gonna like a Stiff album if punk/new wave was your thing. but seriously.... Apple Records?

Yeah, but we have learned over the years that Beatards don't really like music so much as they define their tastes by the idea of Beatleness, so collecting Apple records makes perfect sense, as does buying something with the Apple record before you even hear it. In fact it makes more sense than buying most Apple records after hearing them.

Having grown up in an age where taping albums from friends, or burning CDs is the norm, as I'm sure most of them have done, I'm horrified at the aggression with which they seem to regard Spotify or YouTube as illegal piracy of the highest order, let alone torrenting or even plain old downloads. And yet they will try to find loopholes in any vague coupon or sale priced and mis-priced items on Amazon, Target, DeepDiscount, etc. They fire off emails and make phone call to various Karls, Julies or Brendas at importcds and bullmoose. Then they go ballistic at STeVE's and get worked up into a white-hot fervor of hate and feel "gutted" when they can't get some Super Duper Deluxe Beatle's set for $4.99 or other nonsense.
But legally subscribing to Spotify is a mortal sin. I can barely stand visiting that place any more.

Which leads to another question - has anything of any musical worth actually been released on Apple? Would there be anything non-Beatles that the average punter might know, or actually charted? Those Were The Days by Mary Hopkin is the only contender I can think of.

I downloaded a "Complete Apple Singles" torrent out of curiosity once. It's pretty easy to see why the label didn't become a powerhouse. Badfinger was the only non-Beatles stuff which I remember. Well, The King of Fuh too, but only because Brute Force did it long before Sir Macca. Not like that one charted though.

I'm pretty sure at this point if you start a thread called "Songs With Music In Them" you'll get 10 pages of replies.

The Modern Jazz Quartet is quite good for what they are, but I'm guessing the Beatles content is next to nil. I haven't heard their Apple albums.

I think MJQ's 1968 Under The Jasmin Tree is one of their best. Ravi Shankar's In Concert 1972 is also really good IMO. Amazing performances and great live recording on lp, can't speak for the ceedee.
