I was thinking about this for awhile played Marigold Sky again .

I looked at lyrics Most done by Hall & Oates a one two other people.

Too me this feels likes and sounds like there best hall & oates cd.

Do It For Love, had too many cooks in kitchen .

Well, the right answer, IMO, was Change of Season. Both their best (album s a WHOLE) EVER...and last best.

Can you explain this a bit more?

There are several set up "rules of thumb".

1 Jim Smith's 0.83 ratio
The distance between speakers / the distance ear to speaker = 0.83
eg, between 8', to speaker 10', 8/10 ~ 0.8 so close

1 Rule of thirds
If room is 18' long
Speakers at 6', 1/3
Seat at 12', 2/3
This is hard to do since speakers are way out in the room

2 Vandersteen locates speakers and seating on odd ratio of roon dimensions
Assume 12' wide
1/3 ~ 4'
1/5 ~ 2.4'
1/7 ~ 1.7'
Say 2.4 works, each speaker is 2.4 from the sidewall (7.2' between them)

length 20', distance from front wall
1/3 6.7', same as the thirds rule, but too far out imo
1/5 4', this may work
1/7 2.9'
Say the 2.9 works best for you and more importantly the partner, wife, etc.
put the seat at 2/3 or 13.3'

13.3 - 2.9 ~ 10.4' from speaker
The diagonal to speaker
arctan (7.2/2 / 10.4) ~ 19 deg
Diagonal 10.4/cos19 ~ 11'
Ratio 7.2/11 ~ 0.65, not close to 0.83

You can move the speakers out or apart, 4' out or 1.7 from wall
Let's use the 1.7 from side wall, d ~ 12 - 2 x 1.7 ~ 8.6'
d to speaker still 10.4', diagonal 11.3
Ratio ~ 8.6/11.3 ~ 0.76, better
You could move the seat up a foot 8.6/10.3 ~ 0.83

3 the Focal speaker mfg guideline
You need 3 dimensions
Sidewall 1.7
Front wall 2.9
Floor to woofer, assume 2'

assign variables A, B and C where A > B > C
A = 2.9
B = 2
C = 1.7

A x C = B^2 is the target
2.9 x 1.7 = 4.9 = 2^2 = 4
4.9 close to 4
Let's say you wanted to get closer
Move speakers back 3" and closer to wall 1" each
A = 2.65
B = 2
C = 1.5
2.65 x 1.5 ~ 3.9 ~ 2^2 ~ 4, spot on

Room sounds great imo

Why does this have to be so complicated? Just enjoy the music....

I miss the VCR and it's simple analog ability to just record video from whatever was on the screen in analog.



Same as cassette music. Tape was and is a special format for home use.



Trying to watch classic movies these days is impossible without paying to rent or buy a digital copy.

No, VCRs died because nobody wanted them anymore, and they stopped selling.

I have absolutely zero nostalgia for the VCR era. I do not miss the terrible picture and sound quality, the random pan-and-scan releases that deformed original directorial and/or editorial intent, and degraded rentals that perpetually dirtied your VCR heads.
