How many times will Arnold Grove tell the same lame joke?

Oh boy! Don't look now, but for the past five years Arnold Grove has been ticking the ribs of all the SHite Beatards with his side-splittingly funny take on that clever "tight trousers" joke from the old Rutles TV special.
It's such a stone classic that he has used it close to 100 times since 2012!
So, sit back, relax, and try not to double over in laughter as you peruse this compendium of Arnold Grove's greatest (s)hits!:

Arnold Grove: Okay. This should be safe:
The moody and magnificient drummer P_____ was finally kicked out of the band called The B_____ . The reason for why this was done was because his mother M_____ had an affair with the band's roadie N_____ . In addition, their manager B_______ , who liked young men in tight trousers, was sick of having to deal with M_____ , so they gave P____ the boot, so to speak. ...
I don't think we are annoying any publishers with that, ehh?? Arnie

Paperback Writer: Has anyone from the extended "Beatle Family" commented on the album yet?
Arnold Grove: More quotes from the “Beatle Family”:
Ringo Starr: “Hey Paul, I don’t see many peace-and-love songs on this album. You have songs about reptiles and kids’ games and being scared, but no peace-and-love songs. Come on now!”
Queenie Epstein: “Thank you Paulie for finally composing a song about me. I wasn’t convinced when my beloved son Brian first told me about your trousers, but now I understand.”
Olivia Harrison: “Since when did you join the Wilburys? I hope that you are going to credit George for those guitar riffs on the song Turned Out.”
Jeff Lynne: “And people complained about my production on Free As A Bird? These 4 modern-day producers that Paul got to produce this album have their heads stuck up some ELO records.”
Pete Best: “If you’ll release the few BBC radio tracks from 1962 that I play on, I’ll say that your NEW album is great.”

guppy270: I've read many accounts of the Beatles feeling that appearing live on the number one television variety show in America WAS very important to them. Obviously they were becoming known in America, hence the teenagers to greet them at Idlewild/JFK. But myself, I'd argue that lots of people get to number one---Acker Bilk, Bert Kampfert...but that actually seeing the Beatles being all witty and funny in all the news coverage of their NYC arrival, and then seeing them live on Ed Sullivan---a self-contained group, playing their own instruments, looking pretty happy and charming---was important to the continuing success in America, and the wider spread of Beatlemania. The Sullivan show was also the most viewed television show in US history at the time. Imagine if they had gone on and played totally crappy? That's why their landing here and the Sullivan show are seen as so important, more so than having a number one record. IMO.
Arnold Grove: One should not underestimate the importance of 73 million people in the USA seeing the band in their trousers for the very first time. It definitely produced a seismic shift.... Arnie

Thread title: Beatles Biography by Mark Lewisohn (sixth edition)
Arnold Grove: Maybe Mark is one of those writers who have problems in writing the first sentence of their new books. You know, it takes them months or even years to just get that first sentence, but then they can crank out the next 500 pages in a few weeks. So maybe Mark just needs for us to send him some suggestions for how to begin Volume 2. You know, something like: "1963 was a really gear year for the Fab Four, despite the slight loosening of their previously skin-tight trousers..." You can take it from there, Mark ...

gottafeelin: Of course. But most hugely successful people could have probably found success, or at least made a comfortable living, even if they hadn't achieved their goals. The Beatles had painted themselves into a corner. If they didn't succeed as a band, they had no education, no training and very little opportunity to do much of anything else. If the Stones had failed, they probably would have all become professionals in some field. The Beatles didn't have anything like that to fall back on. So again, the cards were stacked against them in ways that bands born in the suburbs could never understand.
Arnold Grove: They always had their trousers working in their favor...

dewey02: Life isn't black and white. Eye witnesses are sometimes not the best in recollecting what actually happened. Since the Beatles were in the center of the maelstrom, they often did not see things the same as perhaps others saw them. I would guess that Neil and Mal probably had quite different perceptions of what actually happened than the four Beatles did. And then there are people like Mark Lewisohn, who gathers research and makes conclusions based on what he's found.
Who right and who's wrong? All of them, even Mark. The best we can do is take it all in, and make our own decisions about what we believe to be true. And clearly, we won't always agree on that. But that is OK too.

gkmacca: It requires a rich and impressive mix of skills to write a genuinely substantial biography of someone like McCartney - excellent research ability as a biographer, obviously, but also an appreciation of social history, cultural history, musical history, and sharp but balanced critical judgement in terms of the body of work itself. Too many books show either no serious analysis of the music, or simply parade personal prejudices to the benefit of no one but the writer him/herself. Too many of the others get distracted by tabloid-friendly gossip and the input of interviewees with personal scores to settle. McCartney has had an impact on so many levels, and in so many spheres, it's a huge task to do him justice, and I doubt Norman is the author to do it.
Arnold Grove: But I'm that author who can do it! And that's why MY 17-page opus will be the one to get!
For example, here are some of the new insights from my book, where I promise to take an unbiased look at Paul's career:
Paul started out as a failed trumpet player. EVERYTHING in Paul's life can be traced back to this failure. His failure as a trumpet player is even to blame for his marriage to Ms Heather Mills.
Paul and John were not only songwriting partners, but they tailored each other's trousers. This was the key to their brilliance. BUT once Yoko started sewing John's pants, the writing on the wall was written for the song-writing duo.
Driving Rain was the ONLY album that Paul recorded while NOT smoking any pot. Now we can understand why that turned out the way it did.
Paul forces his grandkids to watch Give My Regards To Broad Street whenever they come over to his house.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg. ...

"I hope we are going to be big, and I think we will, but I'm going to make my trousers tighter no matter what ..."

Fivebyfive: One really odd thing in that NY Daily News article. It quotes Peter Cox, Linda's co-writer on her cookbook, as saying that there were only 2 people who could say "no" to Paul: George Martin and Paul's daughter Stella. That may or may not be true. But to use Peter Cox as a source? He's a cookbook writer. He never spent ANY time with Paul and George Martin in the studio. None. Cox has no idea what their relationship was. So why is Philip Norman quoting this guy as some sort of legit source on George Martin & Paul? Bizarre.
Second, Peter Cox only knew the McCartneys for a couple years from 87-89. That's it. By Cox's own admission, after 89 he never saw Linda or the McCartney family. So, again, why is Norman using this guy as a source on Paul's relationship with Stella? Cox hasn't been involved in the McCartney family in 30 years.
That tells me all I need to know about Norman's level of research for this book.
Arnold Grove: Quoting a cookbook writer who knew Paul for 2-3 years is ridiculous.
BUT in MY book, I interview and quote the following:
Paul's personal tailor---the same one who tightened up the seams of his trousers in 1962 and is still, at the age of 112, working for Paul (who says he isn't loyal?).
Paul's personal luggage packer---the one who indeed put the bags of marijuana in Paul's luggage when going to Japan in 1980.
Paul's personal hair colorists---he's had 85 of them, so I have devoted much important space to these experts.
Paul's personal dog-walker---I get the inside scoop on the pooper-scooper for Paul's canine family members.

That same eternal recognition will always be there for George Martin as well. That The Beatles came across these particular men in their time of need is almost miraculous.

guppy270: I've read many accounts of the Beatles feeling that appearing live on the number one television variety show in America WAS very important to them.
Arnie

gottafeelin: Of course.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. ...

Arnold Grove incorrectly stated that his sources confirmed that "Jumpin'Jack Flash" has been added to the Pepper track list, but he has apologized subsequently and been suspended from the forum.
Arnold Grove: I already told you why there was some confusion: Michael Lindsay-Hogg filmed the promo video for "Jumpin Jack Flash" (JJF). So he will be inserting that JJF video into his newly re-cut version of the Let It Be film, and NOT into the Pepper track list. (Anyone could have made that mistake, right?). It will be inserted right after the scene where John almost falls asleep after listening to Paul talking about how "Mr Epstein" would have them make sure that their trousers were always kept as tight as possible...

dewey02: There was a lot of discussion when the colorized photo of Vol. 2 first leaked (I think it was via Phillipines Universal Music. The concern wasn't over the colorization, but they had photoshopped George's tie to make it longer. But when the disc was officially issued, George's tie was back to its pre-photoshopped length.
Such discussions could ONLY happen on the SHF!
Arnold Grove: And they didn't just make George's tie longer. But they also tightened up his trousers. Nothing left to the imagination...

[An Arnold Grove tight trousers four-poat extravaganza....w/pictures!]
dumangl: Maybe I didn't get what you meant either. Your post seems to me to be a case of failed logic rather than failed English. Of course The Beatles were in the right place at the right time and they had some lucky breaks but they also had the talent and charisma (and the trousers) to capitalize on it.
Arnold Grove: Never underestimate the effect of the trousers.
Arnold Grove: Just look at these trousers! How could they fail:
Arnold Grove: And the later years of the band featured incredible innovation in seams. Just look:
Arnold Grove: And Brian Epstein would not have given the band a second look if they hadn't been wearing these leather trousers. Nothing left to the imagination .... :

Arnold Grove: This. The Beatles stood head and shoulders above their contemporaries because of the cut of their trousers. As solo artists in the 70s, they didn't even have tailors...

Lemon Curry: To the OP's question, Brian Epstein will always be remembered for as long as The Beatles are. Their rise to success is a classic David and Goliath tale, northern scruffs vs. the London elite, and Epstein will always be rightly recognized as the architect of that part of the story.
That same eternal recognition will always be there for George Martin as well. That The Beatles came across these particular men in their time of need is almost miraculous.
Arnold Grove: And don't forget the man most responsible for the Beatles' rise to fame: their tailor! Whoever tightened up their trousers was a genius!!

paper shoes:Let's face it, it was the trousers, and George Martin had nothing to do with that.
Arnold Grove: These were the trousers that convinced Brian to sign the band. Nothing left to the imagination ...

lenmac31: He was asking how many shows I have attended in my life, and how did I view how people in the New York area viewed Paul( I mentioned the concert for New York )
What was it about his live shows that set him apart from others , etc
Arnold Grove: Thanks.
It's good though that I personally wasn't asked the same questions:
Question: How many shows have you attended in your life?
My answer: Thousands.... Oh, you mean concerts by Paul. This is my first, and I'm only going because I'm trying to impress my hot date.
Question: How do you view how people in the New York area view Paul?
My answer: I think you are using "view" too many times in your question. But anyway: I don't think New Yorkers view Paul any differently than any other multi-millionaires that us poor schlubs meet on the street ...
Question: What is it about his live shows that set him apart from others?
My answer: The trousers ...:love::love::love:

Ephi82: Sorry. Violently disagree. MCCartney probably had the greater gift for melody, but Lennon's compositions are what carried them them to superstardom. They were both great writers
Arnold Grove: Silly boy. What carried them to superstardom were the trousers ...

M*****l: they were above average, but their key was songwriting, extremely pleasing vocals and a well packaged product...they did not need anything more.
Arnold Grove: You are forgetting the all-important trousers ...
