Very cool interview that Michael Fremer did with a 12 year old audiophile that’s into vinyl. The kid even knows that United sucks!!
I wonder if he’s a member here
This has to be the best video I've seen all year. That kid is amazing, not only in his vast knowledge of records and music, he actually understands mastering, equipment, and the impact on reproduction. In the 13min video he talks more common sense than you will find in 95% of the audio industry (and yes, I know, 97.3% of statistics are made up!). His passion is infectious, even though his friends haven't caught the bug.
He also reminds me somewhat of our host's son, the "Song Sleuth".
He’s really a brilliant, radiant kid.Just remarkable. Hope Mikey has him over more often.
Great piece. Striking comment by Michael about Malachi's streaming friends, who years later won't remember where they bought a certain album etc ... they'll remember nothing.
Did you watch the "outtake" video also? Mikey let him operate his table, removing the stylus from an RL Led Zep II. That was an honor indeed.
Can't wait for the knockoff STeVE version, which should be coming any day now. I hope he uses that jerk ass-looking Damian kid that LeAnn Rimes drags around like an accessory. That could be mildly entertaing.

The 12 year old audiophile chimed in on that thread. I guess he's been a lurker for a while now, but it's his first post. The very first response is a request to...you guessed it...fill out your profile:
When you have time it would be good if you could expand your profile to list the equipment you listen to music on the most - it's expected, and gives others a context for any sound-quality opinions you might share.
These equipment profile nazi's are nuts. The kid is 12. It doesn't matter if he has Fremer's system, he has no baseline. Almost everything he hears he's hearing for the first time, so it doesn't matter what he's listening to. Fremer's BS about those kids "having nothing" eventually is dumb, too. They have the memories of what they were doing when they heard those songs. I don't remember where I bought 2/3's of my records but I have lots of good memories revolving around music. SHiTe's have memories of touching a tube amp.
The SHiTE equivalent of "my dick is bigger than yours" is "my stereo system is better than yours." Hence the equipment profiles. Well that and how the equipment profiles are used as a marketing ploy, of course.

When I was 12, I had a system that would have given a SHite the vapors as it was cobbled together from hand me downs, stuff I found at garage sales and what little new stuff I could afford when I finally gave up on trying to repair whatever junk I had. I also probably got more enjoyment out of that stack of mismatched crap than the average SHite gets out of their finely tuned “rigs” where the power cord cost more than my entire system.
"I must say though, artists like Kurt or Thelonious Monk who people think have something to say of the highest importance but are really just suicidal or insane sort of freak me out. Why? Well, everyone thought Monk was really "out there" but they followed his lead and jazz changed. Turns out he really was insane and was finally locked up. Does that mean that the jazzers were wrong to follow him? No, but still." - STeVE
I’m torn. On one hand great for the kid for having a pretty unique hobby for his age, on the other hand when all his friends are out getting pussy he will be at home knowing who the engineer on the record he is listening to was. He sounds like a subject for DeVoe to record and post online.
