Their artwork is a bit cliparty, but nothing like as bad as Audio Futility's. Fuck me - what a shit website - I think their graphic design skills are even worse than the shambles of Audio Fuckdelity. Shite WebsiteNever heard anything by them and it may sound great and I do like labels that release old forgotten stuff but what the shit are they thinking. I'm scared.

I offered to give this artwork, gratis, to "Retro Fono Records" while gently suggesting it might help increase their sales. They quite curtly declined my offer. You be the judge: their design is the first one, mine is the 45 sleeve design:

I have never heard of this tech before. Interesting stuff. I'll have to check out some of these mixes. Anyone have recommendations? Gorfs, feel free to move this to "reveal your inner SHite" I really like the first four DES mixes found here. I won't file share these because this label is such a tiny operation. And hey, Winchester Cathedral in its W-I-D-E S-T-E-R-E-O Debut. Win/win. www.ericrecords.com/htf_17.htmlAlso I seriously love this MacArthur Park mix. So there.

When the graphics K-Tel and Ronco used on their album sleeves and commercials begin to look more aestheticly pleasing than what is being churned out now, you're in trouble...

I generally don't have much use for DES, but when it's done well, it is impressive in a pointless sort of way, kinda like the ability to juggle.

It's funny how SH members are pointedly asking why Steve changed his mind about DES and mentioning how his sheep are following in lockstep behind him as well and softening their hatred of Eric Records. You know, he really is a menopausal old liar, isn't he?
STeVE:
There is nothing valid about DES. __________________________________________________________________
Responding to "Because DES stereo is a a remixing process ... nothing more, nothing less."
No it's not. Remixing something from a multi-track work part source is totally different. Your DES process is remixing something that is already mixed and finished, with proper levels, reverb, compression, equalization already applied, from many years ago. You're now taking that and messing with it. The split second that the guitar that was in the background is now coming out of the left channel, it draws your ear to it. The split second your ear is drawn to that sound completely changes how you perceive the mix. You can't see that? A crucial difference.
Again, it's OK to like that stuff. But don't give that "nothing more, nothing less" bullcrappy. :^) __________________________________________________________________
Responding to "I beg to differ, I greatly enjoy the House of the Rising Sun and Incense and Peppermints DES version much more than the mono versions."
Well, I enjoyed my Color By Numbers version of the Mona Lisa that I painted in the 5th grade better than the original as well. Doesn't make it a universal truth. __________________________________________________________________
I have not heard the latest stuff. It might sound pretty good, I guess.
Colorizing movies and TV shows. I hate it but it makes new fans. See, if it gives people a reason to watch or listen, because it's been modernized, that's sorta OK with me.
Same thing when you rig a stereo mix from an existing "set in stone" mono mix. You're messing with something that was messed with once already. The end result is just colorizing for your ears. Some people can't live without stereo. This is for them. Simple as that. __________________________________________________________________
It's like taking The Wizard Of Oz and making it 3-D. This is something that also puzzles me. Why do it? Was there a demand? It must be 3-D or it's no good any more? 'Twas pretty good just the way it was for 70 years, what changed?
Or why try and "create" stereo from a mono mix, this is a new trend called DES (Disturbing Essential Sound) thereby changing all the careful balances of the original mono mix? Just because you can? Or the "people" demand it? Who are these people?

Maybe there's an oath of honour among audio remasterbaters to use the option that is most likely to look like a gross parody of a free to gas-buying customers compilation ceedee at your nearest service station.

It's not daddy's old views (or yours) that bother me - it's just that he seems to have flip-flopped on this since he lost his job hoping they would throw some crumbs of work at him.

Well, if they don't take your artwork, I don't see what they need STeVE's famous high-end cut for.
