Granted this is pretty dumb but the response from Hoofy is what takes it over the top. Is there really a need to be that condescending and ask “are you for real!” And you want people to pay to go to your website when you talk like that to them? Fuck you ... I wish someone would ask Hoofy if it was like that on that preview nitrate print he claims to know about.

Was the music in Wizard of Oz written specifically for the movie, or were there tunes written prior to the movie that were reworked for the film? The reason I ask is because in a 1949 cartoon, Farm Foolery, you can hear "Munchkinland Medley". The cartoon music was done by Winston Sharples. Did he take it from Oz, or was the tune around prior to Oz being filmed?
You'll hear "Munchkinland Medley" at 4:25 (Just then, the witch, to satisfy an itch....) along with a hint of Sleeping Beauty (Hi Ho, Hi ho, it's off to work we go...) throughout. Was it common for cartoon film music writers to simply borrow bits and pieces of whatever else might already be out there?
Just wondered.

You’re right, it sure sounds like the Oz tune, but my suspicion is that it’s just very similar and not quite the real deal. Also, Fleisher Studios/Paramount introduced ‘Whistle While You Work’ in their cartoons (starting with their Gulliver’s Travels feature, I think), which I regard as something of a knock-off of ‘Hi Ho, Hi Ho,’ so I think they’d re-rehash their own version rather than take directly from Disney.
I enjoyed the use of the Popeye theme and gimmick in this cartoon. Enjoyed the entire cartoon, actually.

Hoofy:
Is this for real, folks? You obviously never took basic piano lessons.

Ha! Nope, I never
Plus, to further correct my note above, it’s Fleischer’s ‘It’s a Hap-Hap-Happy Day’ that’s a knock-off of Disney’s ‘Whistle While You Work,’ so forget I said anything.

People in 1949 would have recognized that bit of music and appreciated it as the music you play when you have a farm sequence..
