I think he meant to say "I was babysat by the union guys" Nah, it sounds exactly like something you would assign some young loser to do. Not that it ever happened anyway.

I just read through that thread.
First of all, I think it's pretty damn amazing how they can take an ancient b&w videotape and recover color information that had been encoded on it. And then restore the video to color.
Then along comes STeVE to accuse the producers of the clip of lying of the origin of the original tape, while concocting yet another bullshit story about being everywhere and knowing everything about anything.
All I can say is "Fuck you, STeVE!"
I'm willing to believe the word of someone clever enough to recover color footage from a 54-year-old B&W videotape, over a lying piece of shit whose seems to have his head perpetually up his own arse.

As much as I think Vidiot is a pain in the ass (literally) his explanation of taking the color info off b&w tape was interesting. I knew kinescopes could do that, or some of them anyway, though didn’t know about tape. With that said .....
As mention above then Hoofy interjects himself. Can’t he just say something without trying to sound like a big shot? Maybe he’s upset that someone else had the tape before he had a chance to steal it and add all his stolen masters and thy rare complete preview print of the Wizard of Oz ...

Showtaper:
Video Detective STeVE Hooferman:
This is complete bullshit. Kovacs was already dead by the time Hoofy is referencing. Besides, Edie Adams was the one who, from all info I was always referred to, had the archives for Ernie Kovac’s work that exists.

Ernie Kovacs huh? Was he a diver? Because it’s pretty well documented that stuff was dumped in a river circa 1970. I’m not an expert, but I believe the Kovacs stuff that exists came from his widow/family.

All his own shows she is the source, except for maybe a couple that fell through the cracks, and of course his movies and guest appearances on shows like Lucy. He died at the end of 1961 or right at the start of 1962 so if Hoofy is saying mid to late 1960s then he’s off, way off.

I just remember hearing about Edie telling the story about the DuMont materials getting dumped and what she had was donated to the Library of Congress.

Furthermore, I have read that when All In The Family started there was only one or two machines for editing videotape and Marco Zappia, the editor, would have to be sure to reserve the machine. Then all editing was done with razor blades and scotch tape for the final cut. Laugh-In was also edited by hand so this “practice” session for the students was just bullshit. The fact that NBC was so cheap with their videotape that they erased 10 years of Carson should be enough to allow any fool to see through that a network just wouldn’t willingly give away expensive tape - especially tape that could be reused.

Nah. STeVe wouldn’t be caught dead posting on any type of forum or social media platform where he could not control the narrative because then he would get called out exactly like that guy did.

I wish that somebody more ambitious than me would make a compilation of every claim Steve has made and make a calendar of what happened and when. I’m sure there would be some overlapping things that supposedly happened at the same time that he couldn’t possibly be doing them both

Here's a newspaper article: Houston Press 1996 on what happened with the MCA Buddy Holly mastertapes (the year was 1984): Bone to Pick - Pickering of Holly's backing band
