I strongly endorse the forum's ban on political argument, having seen it poison and hijack many an enlightening musical discussion.
FWIW I just reported several posts in the thread discussing the Pitchfork Best 200 Albums of the 80's that were picking fights over alleged racism and identity politics. People just can't help themselves, so I will occasionally try and alert the Gorts before the detour down into the mudfight pit can get traction. I try to do this sparingly and of course it's not up to me what happens, it's the Gorts' call. The thread is currently locked, and presumably (I hope) will be reopened shortly after the troll stuff has been deleted.

I mean, I'll always call out patent white nationalist rhetoric, which is what was going on in that Pitchfork thread.

Textbook example of how things usually get started. Was it really white nationalist rhetoric or was it just you?

The poster was talking about how "lying" journalists are eroding the position of white men by talking about "non-whites" and their art. He then called several people "soy boys" (often used amongst the alt-right) and complained that we were "triggered", when indeed it was him who seemed to be affronted by white men not getting their due.
Wasn't just me, either. Several people saw what was going on.

"white nationalist" is a serious accusation, let alone without knowing the person.

Count me among the people that have never heard the term "Soy Boys" and agree that 'Lying" journalist are eroding the position of white men. What does that make me? Is that a valid opinion?

Why bring it up in a thread about the best 80s albums? He injected these highly charged words when they had no place. He could have said "yeah, I don't agree with this list", but he went a different direction completely unprompted.
I'm sorry, but when you come into a thread like that and start spewing stuff about non-whites, "agenda" pushing, lying journalists, "brainwashing", etc. I know where your coming from - and it's a bad place without good intent.
