I'm sorry, everyone. I just can't let this go. There's no way this isn't a bald faced lie, and we all love catching Hoofy in another whopper, so here goes.
STeVE mentioned above that he hung out with B. Mitchel Reed while working in the MetroMedia building. Well, for funsies, I went and grabbed the Ladd book.
So, STEVE, if you read this, explain a couple of things for me, eh?
You claimed to have worked for KLAC. That's the country station in the building. Yet you also claimed to have hung around at KMET down the hall.
1. You said that you went to school during the day and started your "broadcast engineering job" at 3pm. Well, given the standards of the day, independent owners, unlike network stations, had their DJs running their own boards and equipment. So what were you engineering?
2. You said this was 1976-1977. Okay, as mentioned earlier, you said you hung out with B. Mitchel Reed. Problem is, STEVE, Reed (on KMET) was part of the morning show until October 27, 1976, when he took over as midday host (10am-2pm), and he died in March, 1983. So, can you explain to us how you "hung out" with someone that didn't work at the same station you did? Especially while you were "in school" at the time?. And, if you started working at 3pm (the "swing shift"), why in the hell would a rock and roll DJ hang out with the "broadcast engineer" down the hall at the country station, over an hour after his shift ended, just to hang out with you. Longtime LA DJ staying late to hang out at a country station to hang out with some pimply-faced college kid an hour plus after his shift ended?
STEVE, it has been said that the first step in solving any problem is admitting there is one. You can't tell me you're that important that the situation listed above went down. Please. Seek help. There are programs for people like you all over the world. You have serious delusions of grandeur (and of adequacy), and I think some NA meetings, an inpatient rehab stay, and an hour or two a week with a psycho-analyst are in order.
...On second though, no, don't do that. This website has given me more laughs and enjoyment in 6 months than SHMF has in 7 years.
Come on, tell us how you were the engineer for ABC the night RFK was shot, and you were the first to identify Sirhan Sirhan.

Good points, COLA (and bonus points for making me spit out Pepsi when I read "yeah, sure he did, Beaver). I'm amazed thinking about talking to a coked out British Mick Fleetwood about American politics in the mid 70s. Yes, Fleetwood Mac, known for their highly politically charged hits like "Go Your Own Way (Or Give Me Death)", "Say You Vote For Me" and "Oh, Well...My Candidate Didn't Win (Pt. 1). If Vicodin gives one delusional fantasies like this, I'm gonna have to go get me a bottle of the strong stuff. I'll tell you all about the time Ted Nugent and I went to a Barack Obama rally.
"Ted really is misunderstood. It's all just a public persona. He told me that after he heard me playing Stranglehold while cleaning my garage. Heh."

Sorry, aqua, I'm not inclined to be charitable. You'd think for someone always at the zeitgeist of pop history, there would have been some kind of mention of Hoofy working there. Even if I gave the benefit of the doubt, believing he worked there, he answered phones or delivered mail or something. 20 bucks says he is (once again) inflating his importance to inflate his ego (as usual). He's been caught in far too many bullshit stories for me to take it seriously at all. At ALL. I was thinking about this and according to STeVe’s Wikipedia page it claims a birth year of 1951. If true that would put his graduation year as 1969 or 1970. We’ll say for arguments sake 1970. If he went straight into college the next year and was full time student workload that whole time then his graduation date would be approx 1974/75. He’s claiming in many poats he was still a student when he was involved in these stations’ histories ranging from the 1970 thru 1979 dates. Either STeVe was the slowest student on the planet or he can’t keep his bullshit straight. Guess which one I think it is.

I'm leaning towards the "can't keep his bullshit straight" option, and it won't take much persuasion to push me fully into the column. Which begs another interesting question. Again, technology was much more advanced in the 2000s, so I have proof of my meetings. Autographs, photos, things like that. So, how does Mr. Kodak Kodachrome over there never seem to have any traces of having met, lunched with, anything, with every single celebrity from 1955-present day? For someone that's been "everywhere the grass grows green, and seen everything there is to see", there is minimal accounts of him with any of these people. Actually, I wouldn't trust an "autograph" posted by Hoofy. He's liable to write some chicken scratch and pass it off. "Revered in the biz" my ass.

His birth year keeps changing - I think it drifted between 1953 and 1956, at some points. But 1951 might actually be reality.
But if the guy can't even keep that straight, how the hell are we supposed to believe anything else he says. I actually remember bringing up his age at one point when I was there and my post got immediately zapped. That's when I realized that he was so sensitive about it.
Happy 69th, old man!

What we need is a comprehensive timeline of all Daddy’s stories to truly see his quantum leaping abilities. If only someone had some time on their hands.

I'd like to see this statement debunked:
"Once again.
Those of you old enough to have heard RAIN on the radio, please sing the last "backwards" line right now. Come on, sing it out just like we did as kids, you know you memorized it after hearing it a zillion times on your transistor.
How did you do?
Well, that's how John did it. He sang it just like that after writing it out on a piece of paper after hearing it backwards by accident on his demo. He said so. Anyone who remembers the song on the radio read his interview. All the DJ's knew. All of us kids sang it over and over again the same way.
They didn't turn the tape around, that's just John being silly. He said so, dudes.
So, it's not a backwards recording, he's just singing words to sound that way. Once again, he said so. Find an old Beatles' Monthly or something.
Imagine how hard it would have been to actually have done that song by reversing the tape, John would have had to master a different melody line, on the same track as Paul and George singing "RAIN!" in the middle of it, frontwards. George Martin might have said (30 years later) that he did it by turning around some of John's vocal but it is not what he told me back in the 1970s. Think about it. Anyone ever record with four-track tape? How would this have been done without another "bounce"? There isn't one in the documents. It was my understanding (WARNING: Steve name dropping time) when I interviewed Sir George Martin in 1977 that after hearing a bit of what could be done, John did it "officially" by mimicking the sound he heard, not actually reversing any tape (which would have cause many problems, recording wise.) Ah well."
Steve Hoffman, May 18, 2008
Did Steve interview George Martin in the UK or the USA....

Did Steve interview George Martin in the UK or the USA.... I did debunk it back then by posting a sample of Rain played backwards where it is 100% clear even to Hoofy that John-o was singing it normally. STeVE finally said something lame like "Would Sir George [Martin] lie to me? Heh."

This is in my top 5 Guffman is a moron, full of shit, blustering asshole comments of all time. He, the mighty Beatles recording expert, who has met, lunched, and talked shop with George Harrison and George Martin. The douchenozzle who claims he aws close as the thickness of one of John's pubes to remastering the Beatles catalog for DeeCeeCee, couldn't grasp a fact that is obvious to the lowliest of Beatles fans. Fuck that, obvious to anyone with a pair of fucking ears.
But I guess Guffman posted because he was literally going insane, not for any musical pioneering reason.

The Wilburys post where he makes Petty and Lynne out to be grumpy pricks but Harrison glides in with a halo on and heals the blind is probably top 5 as well.

I rarely run into Hoofman poats because he’s only interested in music I couldn’t care less about, but it was the Pete Shelley RIP thread where I really saw how full of shit he is: forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/lead-singer-of-buzzcocks-pete-shelley-dies-at-63.792282/Fortysomething STeVe Fortysomething (to STeVe) Jimodd99 (to STeVe) Classicrock Monosterio NaturalD (to STeVe) Ralphb STeVe (to jimodd99, not knowing that “Homosapien” is Shelley’s best known song to the general public) JL6161 Plonk77 Man at C&A (to STeVe’s first poat) STeVe (suddenly realizing that Pete Shelley is kind of important) Man at C & A Thievius Man at C&A Man @ C&A (responding to one of Johnny Quest’s sock puppets) Fortysomething Man at C&A Man @ C&A STeVe (again ignoring that Pete Shelley’s greatest commercial success was as a solo artist) Plonk77 Man at C&A STeVe Plonk77 Man at C&A Gary191265 STeVe Wikipedia: Pete Shelley

What an absolute asshole. Yes, it was STeVE who told him to dump the guitar and play the synth. STeVe is such a lying sack of shit. I hope his family is proud of their papa.
