I've torrented some of his work over the years. The sound quality is okay in isolation but as soon as you compare it to the mass produced alternative his cluelessness becomes clear. Load the stuff up in Audacity if you want a real shock! Shaved peaks, uneven channels. Generally the source is the same as the mainstream version, only his is clipped with loads of digital spikes. I wouldn't be surprised if a large percentage of his audiophool remasterings are rips of old CDs that he's messed about with.
The stuff he did for MCA seems mostly fine. However, one has to ponder why it is that his MCA masterings, supposedly the best of those titles, were only in print for a very quick period of time before being "secretly" remastered. Probably because he ballsed them up!

He did get the master tapes for the Fantasy/Concord owned stuff with DCC, I wouldn't have any reason to doubt the person I knew there.
When Jaime Tate proved that Kevin Gray remasterbated Simon and Garfunkel Audio Fidelity disc was from an older CD that pretty much gave away what those two hucksters were doing all along.

Perhaps the MCAs were withdrawn as a punitive measure and to ensure no credit be given to Sticky Fingers Hoffman.

Thank God he didn't get to do any long term damage to the Steely Dan, Elton John and Who catalog at MCA. It's good that they removed this huckster's crap from the market and tossed his work in file 13. Does any of his work from MCA remain that has not been remastered?
I've listened to some of his "premium" priced CDs and they are hardly revelations. People would be better served just to buy the stock versions off the shelf or used one on e-bay for $2. Put the money saved to something more useful.
Love the nicknames "Thieving Steven" and "Sticky Fingers Huffman!"

My public library had a cd at one time that STeVE had done, I don’t remember which one it was but I thought I would check it out. It sounded the same, only louder/tinny sounding. As you said, take the money and buy a $2 used off eBay and take what was saved and spend it elsewhere. People only say STeVE’s work sounds good because they’re told it sounds good. Those who question STeVE and his work have silently been removed from the board.

And that is also the true reason for the attempt to force everyone into listing their audio equipment details. If you are critical about his mastering work, he (or one of his sock puppets) will dismiss your opinion and claim you just can't hear it because your audio gear isn't up to snuff. Nevermind that about 98% of audio consumers have crappy or consumer gear, it's all about Steve-o trying to protect his business. If that doesn't work, he falls back on his contention that his ears are better than yours. He's pathetic.

Who's Next, Meaty Beaty...., Mamas and Papas remix, and Golden Earring Moontan are some of the titles that remain in print here, normally prices are in the $6 range.

My fave laughable moment was when he claimed the reported glitches/clicks on one of the AF Doors CD were not audible, if you listened on high end resolving gear. Magic.

That don't really make any sense does it? Obviously "high end resolving gear" would expose the flaws even more clearly. Maybe if remastering jobs are in short supply these days for Huff he could find a job helping out the White House communications office?

Well, I'm almost positive Who's Next has been remastered at least once since the days Huff was skulking around MCA. People are talking about on Amazon reviews. Also, Meaty Beaty has been recently remastered by Jon Astley according to Discogs on vinyl. Maybe a CD is coming?
Speaking of Jon Astley, boy he's getting a lot of work. Looks like his schedule is (and has been) completely full. I bet that makes someone really mad on that other forum.

Sorry misread your poat, the only one I mentioned that fits your criteria is the remixed Mamas and Papas.

It partially explains why Astley is given a lot of hassle by SHiTEs, but I'm in favour of his work on The Who's catalogue in the 90s. The first time I heard the 'original' mix of Rael with the shitty edit, I was gobsmacked that something so amateur made it onto a professionally-recorded album.

Hoffman mastered stuff turns up in used bins all the time, particularly the MCAs.
