Either the one who sang 'We Built This City', or the one whose penis exploded. Been trying to think of a Brit equivalent to Shitcago, but to our credit, I don't think we've ever had one. Mike and the Mechanics I don't recommend listening to this but it's as cringeworthy as anything Chicago did, as far as I can hear

Mike and the Mechanics I don't recommend listening to this but it's as cringeworthy as anything Chicago did, as far as I can hear I managed about 30 seconds, what's my prize - 10 no-holes-barred minutes with the nekkid Hoffman brats? M+tM is unquestionably shit, but I was thinking more along the lines of bands who were taken very seriously (for a few years, at least) by their home crowd, but universally reviled/ignored everywhere else. AmeriKKKa's had quite a few of those - Beach Boys, CCR, 3 Dog Night, Grand Funk, BOA etc - but it seems all of our credible Brit bands have been global superstars, or at least rispek-ted nearly everywhere...?

I thought of Dexys as a sort of comparison with regards to them being the band that did Come On Eileen in 99% of the western world, but were taken as pioneering heroes in the UK, at least until Kevin Rowland put out My Beauty (Google the album cover if you want nightmares). I don't mind saying that while I enjoy Chicago up to a very fixed point in their career, Dexys absolutely piss all over them in terms of quality of output and talent.

Peter Cetera tried to touch my wiener.
That ain't the only sin you two committed.
I admit it.

No one took Grand Funk seriously, ever. They were universally panned by the Press and kids liked them because they were bong-rippingly fun. I think the Beach Boys are the only group taken seriously by anyone on your list, so I really don't know what the etc. refers to. To give credit where it's due, at least we never thought Cliff Richard was a thing.

Cliff Richard did warn us of the Devil Woman, who will get us from behind if we're not careful.
I have no idea what that rant was about. Apparently his hot take is that all of the great bands from the UK were also popular in the US, but a bunch of shitty bands from the US weren't popular in the UK. Really makes you think.

The rest of the crap strewn across their 7 album catalog is shit that sounds like those good tracks but worse. But fwiw, in an industry where most groups can barely manage to be a one hit wonder, Fogerty and those other guys were able to come up with an album's worth of 'em. Chicago couldn't do that and they've been going for XXXVI albums.

Spelling America with three Ks is usually a bad idea, unless you're Ice Cube, in which case it's still stupid.

Who is your favorite original Chicago lead singer? Please just vote for your favorite singers, not the material they sang or how Chicago went down the tubes after Terry's unfortunate demise (not my opinion). For once, I agree with a SHite! It is also not my opinion that Terry's demise was unfortunate.
