One of the best smackdowns that I've read in quite a while. The next post is just as good:

We need to be mindful that we risk losing participation by some very high profile industry figures if we continue to insult and ridicule those that we don't agree with.
Robust discussion is fine, but personal insults and attacks are not.
Barry Diament is one of those that no longer participates for this reason.
Sullis02: As regards matters relating to digital audio, Barry Diament is at best a well-meaning victim of Dunning-Kruger, or at worst a hopeless high-end hack.
Wikipedia's definition of Dunning-Kruger (for those, like me, who don't know what that is):
In the field of psychology, the Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people of low ability have illusory superiority and mistakenly assess their cognitive ability as greater than it is. The cognitive bias of illusory superiority comes from the inability of low-ability people to recognize their lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of metacognition, low-ability people cannot objectively evaluate their actual competence or incompetence.
Sound like anyone else we know (and love)?
I think I first heard of Dunning-Kruger in the rfreeman thread on this site.

Holy crap, that thread is over 400 pages long. Shades of SHiteville... I had never heard of MQA before, so just read the wiki. It's a lossy compression format that also uses "file fingerprinting" so is presumably also a copy-protection thing. Why audiophools (some of them anyway) think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread (or STEVE's remasterbatings) is a mystery.
Stereophile editor John Atkinson, quoted in wikipedia:
""In almost 40 years of attending audio press events, only rarely have I come away feeling that I was present at the birth of a new world."
Jeebus man, get a life.

I think I first heard of Dunning-Kruger in the rfreeman thread on this site. Was it the evil company from Alien or from Blade Runner?

This is the same guy who once said that a piece of gear with bad specs can sound good. It's hilarious how having a lot of money to buy extremely expensive systems is what makes people take you seriously in the world of audiophoolery, instead of actually knowing what you're talking about with facts, logic, and science. The whole thing revolves around perpetuating ignorance so that audiophile publications can continue to shill snake oil for profit. It's exactly why serious audio engineers laugh at audiophiles.
