Fortunately the Sinatra family was smart enough to hire outside music firms to handle the planning, production, distribution and marketing of Sinatra CD, LP and DVD releases subsequent to his passing which is keeping his music alive and available to younger fans. Credit also to Sid Mark and Nancy Sinatra for their invaluable on-air radio work. I compare that to what happened after Bing Crosby's passing and the almost non-existent legacy work done (or not done) by his widow. The result has been that Crosby who once dominated the music field like no other popular artist ever** is now seldom heard or talked about. Hopefully his kids can take over when she passes on and revive the Crosby music and brand.
**as late as 1948, Crosby songs accounted for half(!) of all radio airplay.

82 was far too young for Mr. S to depart us, but damn what a legacy he left us! I remember that sad day twenty years ago and I still have the self-made CD that I threw together that day (NOTE: This was long before everybody had a computer with a burner in it and I was making discs with a stand alone Pioneer CD recorder).
Amen to the great Sid Mark and a lukewarm thank you to Sinatra's kids, whom in my opinion could be doing Sinatra reissues and such much, much better than they have in the past decade or two. I'm still patiently waiting for those Sinatra/Jobim recordings in "surround", as was promoted many years back when REPRISE (WARNER BROS.) was releasing DVD-Audio discs. Those surround mixes exist and every day I get older and am growing tired of waiting for them to finally release them (Let's have 'em already, before we're all dead and gone!)
Hopefully, Frank is resting in peace in heaven, with Dino and Sammy Davis Jr. by his side and a never emptying bottle of Jack Daniels

Hey Vinyl Man
I was suffering from a bad case of unrequited love (although at least I am still friends with the woman in question, so I guess I handled it right), and I had the lousy luck to be at a farewell party for a guy who was a mutual friend of myself and my crush and her boyfriend. Despite that melancholy setting, I had my brave face on as we went to a favorite pub for one last round. The news had come out earlier in the day, so they were playing a lot of Sinatra songs at the pub, and I remember singing along with them. Needless to say, the ones about heartbreak were all too real for me right then. At least I had some money to spend, as I had just started a new job. So a few days later I went to Tower Records and bought In the Wee Small Hours. It definitely helped me get through that long, lonely summer!
