I still can’t believe people freaked out that you used the term record player. Thinking about it, I don’t think anyone over there refers to “albums” as LPs or “cassettes” as tapes. It was alway record players, LPs, singles & tapes when I was buying them in the 80s. Now everyone’s so fucking vintage they aren’t even using vintage terms. I never heard anyone say vinyl, as in to mean a record, until this revival. If you think calling something that plays records a “record player” sets the SHiTEs off try saying something positive about Dynagroove or Dynaflex, whatever that vinyl alternative from RCA in the 70s was. I remember someone praising how well his albums pressed on that have held up compared to some on vinyl and the SHiTEs lost their minds over it. No way, if it’s not vinyl it’s not music. Someone even said, maybe the same guy, that he has one that looks like it’s been to hell and back but playing it it is the quietest and best sounding record he owns. Absolutely not, foul! cries the SHiTEs.

I like Dynaflex records for a couple reasons. RCA needed to make the quality control good because people were skeptical. Virgin vinyl really does make a difference and RCA had to use it to make the records that thin.
Best of all, people like SHite's never let up on how awful they are, and when you find them and they're in good shape they're way cheaper than they should be. Then again, I definitely don't have the ears.

I will have to look and see if I have any dynaflex records. I am almost certain that I do. I don’t understand the hate towards them. I recently bought a used record, don’t remember which one, but it was from the late 70s or 80s and it had a spot in the dead area at the start of the album. I picked and worked to get it off before I realized it was paper from an old label. Granted it didn’t harm anything but it was then that I finally saw that it was actually true, that that used to happen.

Good riddance to Telepricker. What do these people do to get banned? He was a truly obnoxious prick so must have really pushed buttons over there. I got banned for making fun of myKKKe and Gnrat, plus I called a turntable a “record player” and that put me on the no no list with Buh Fuh Gary and Jerry and the other dorfs. And somehow Ghostworld manages to make a thread with it in the title, and include a pointless video of himself, and get off scott-free. No justice.

Sid Hartha disappeared a while ago now and he always seemed like a decent guy.

I've got a Michael Stanley album with a piece of paper right in the middle (yeah, I know the guy sucks but but his live album works for the rare occasions I feel nostalgic). I cleaned it and I was like, "Huh, must be paint or something." I had forgotten about bits of label, which you could actually return a record for back then. I brushed that sucker a bunch, then worried it might really make my stylus bounce, but it seems to blast right through it and I don't even hear a click. In fact, that's one of the best playing records I have. I wish some records I like more sounded as good as this one.

I still remember some of the very worst pressings I ever had the misfortune of owning, both US Atlantic records. The first was a copy of Sticky Fingers that actually had colored bits of paper sticking up over the groove walls. Seriously. The other was XTC's Drums and Wires: another rice krispies mess. Oh, even worse (if you can imagine that) was the bonus 7" that came with it. That was completely unplayable. I have heard flexidiscs of better quality than that piece of shit. Oh, I also remember an absolutely horrible copy of Roxy Music's first album on Atco that had louder surface noise than music. Ha, small world! I have the same US pressing of Drums and Wires and that fucker always skips mid-way through Making Plans for Nigel. Complete piece of shit; thank god for digital.

It took me awhile to realise his username was a play on Siddhartha Shiteland is like some crappy companies I've worked at, where the interesting and talented people leave or get driven out, and the mediocre get promoted. From what I've seen and heard, this is the general rule in education. Not sure about other sectors.

Dynaflex pressings weren't the problem. The problem was with the hardware - crappy turntables with noisy motors underneath the platter needed a certain thickness of vinyl to absorb the noise the motor made. Dynaflex just amplified it. They also tended to bend under the cartridge on turntables whose platter was smaller than the record.

Did yours include the bonus 7"? I honestly think that is the worst sounding record ever pressed. Taiwanese bootlegs featured better vinyl quality.
Yeah, I was more than happy to say goodbye to vinyl.
Yeah though the 7" looked very busted up, never even attempted to play it. XTC's early CD reissues were pretty lousy too, as I recall. I have a couple of their albums re-issued by Virgin in the 2000s which seem much better.

XTC shootout! While we're SHITEing, my Drums & Wires and bonus 7" played great and were big favorites in my HS years, but no doubt my tonearm was improperly weighted or something <hides under chair>
