Macon woman wants a statue of Little Richard
Thoughts?
As far as “wrong doings” the majority of those statutes were erected to honor the war dead. Members and kinfolks of the same communities that erected them. Most common Confederate soldiers did not own slaves. They were told to fight to protect their communities so they did. I see no wrong in honoring the fallen. As for progress, do you really think life in the US has improved over the last several decades? Many do not.
And on that note, can we put this ****er to bed?

Well the civil war was fought for many reasons and it had little to do with slavery or destroying the union. One random woman complaining doesn't move me to re-write historyWildHoneyPie9 said:
I am in favor of a statue of Little Richard but the Confederate statue should be left alone at all cost. You simply don't mess with history. Besides: there is enough space for a tribute to little Richard.WildHoneyPie9 said:
Imagine if this woman gets what she wants and the Confederate statue will be replaced by Little Richard, what will be next? The Beatles replacing the presidents on Mount Rushmore because some person likes the idea? It's insanity.eflatminor said:
Citizens shouldn't be forced to pay for a statue...or anything else for that matter.WildHoneyPie9 said:
The Beatles were just an example. The point is that if you give in to these demands you will slowly erase your own history and that's a bad thing.GimmieSomeTruth said:
No, actually it had more to do with states rights and the power shift in the role of the federal gov't which included things such as slavery but it was way deeper than that. Of course basic public education doesn't delve into the various aspects of the civil war. .Whether there is an agenda there i will leave for you to decide. The fact is that even at the height of slavery only 4% of the US population owned slaves. Most of the confederate soldiers were fighting for many different reasons that did not have to do with slavery.colgems1966 said:

And as much as Richard deserves one IMO the Allmans deserve it more.Dudley Morris said:
Put up a statue of Little Richard in a Confederate uniform. Blow some minds.colgems1966 said:
It’s not progress. It’s the PC police wanting to judge and evaluate the past by their own standards. As far as “wrong doings” the majority of those statutes were erected to honor the war dead.
