Yet more from the same thread, the last part got a “WTF” from me.

I do have a complete list of who played what on every song on that album. It's part of my job to make sure that information is correct. I can't share it, though. Soon enough, Alexa (Amazon) and all the digital providers will have this information. I lead a team that corrects all the awful data stored in a music company database, and the future is going to rely on this data, so it has to be right. It will be out there for the public within a year.
Lownote30:
Actually, when it comes to music data, it's more accurate than people give it credit for. Combining that information with other websites and the actual liner notes of an album will give a pretty good picture of who did what.
Lownote30:
This database belongs to a specific record company. I'm just heading up the cleaning process. It will most likely be available on allmusic.com as we partner with them at the moment. We're doing it mostly to avoid getting ticketed by iTunes when something doesn't follow their standard, but we're also doing this for the purpose of voice activation devices that are coming along and will be more common in the future. Imagine if you could ask a device like that to play you songs that only James Jamerson played bass on. That would be cool! Music metadata is the future in this industry. If people want to know who did what on a song, they should be able to find out without a lot of effort.
Hoofy:
I'm sure it will be wonderful and everything but asking Alexa this info and then finding that the Amazon Echo only has the sh***y re-record version sort of ruins it..
Lukpac:
I'd be impressed if Alexa played a re-recording of The Hour of Not Quite Rain.
Lownote30:
This data will go so deep that you'll be able to ask for the original version and it will know what you mean. You'll also be able to ask who played what on any song in the database I'm cleaning, and a device like the Echo will answer with the correct information. It doesn't have to be about playing the song. In fact, it's more about what and who went in to create said song.
Hooferman:
Yeah, but I want to hear the dang right song. Yesterday I struck out every time. Sigh. I mean I have everything on record or whatever but still, in the bathtub I want correct.
At any rate, sounds interesting. Good luck with it all!
