Dammit if those jazz greats of the 50s and 60s had STEvE in charge their recordings would have been remembered as epic moments of greatness. As it stands no one likes them. Too bad.

Sigh. Look, I've gone through the exact same thing that most of you are going through now, except it was back in the 1990s pal.
In 1992, Marshall gave me a newly minted copy of ART PEPPER MEETS THE RHYTHM SECTION on Analogue Snakeoil Productions. It was on this thick vinyl I'd never seen before (two foot thick), heck I'd never even heard of the album before (boy oh boy did I have a lot to learn!)
WHY?
Because I had a collection of them and I needed all of them to complete my collection, such as it was. Yes, I was one of you, a fucking idiot.

It’s interesting that STeVE shits on Atlantic and loves Contemporary because they both sound to me like they were recorded in a broom closet (which is literally true for Contemporary.)

But what about StEVE's CEE DEE? Surely it had the midrange magic! I quasi-agree with Our Host here. Atlantic Jazz recordings of the 1950s and 1960s are no audiophile wonders to begin with, often recorded hot, and the Monk/Blakey and the Messengers is close to unlistenable in Stereo (Monk is hard panned right, the entire rest of the band is hard panned left.) But the Mono version is the most readily available, so who gives a shit? And anybody listening to Mingus or Coleman for the sound quality is a fucking cop. Pretty much any version of any of it should be great. Agree, and also agree with pussy neck that the old CDs are pretty good.

Styve probably has some connection to a phantom account on Discogs and/or eBay, and quotes himself to help sell a $100 cd or a minty Beatles mono press.

When I seek out audiophile quality recordings, Love Me Do is the first song I think of.
