Someone should post that and see if anyone falls for it.

I've only sold maybe 4 or 5 CDs on Hoofy's site, and a couple of the buyers made it not worth future effort. I don't know how sonnyrock, mFidelity or the other regulars keep going.
One buyer threw a fit that an otherwise impeccable CD had a barcode punch. Apparently I was dishonest and it was grounds for full refund? Dudes are maniacs.

A couple weeks ago I was looking for The Dexateens Hardwire Healing album (it makes me catalog on Dexateens), and the only place I could find one was the record label, which is the band. They had 4 left. I ordered one, and it's got a pretty good crease in the cover. I'm not gonna bitch because I could have bought it from the band when they played my town, and I'm sure it's been dragged around in the merch box for a couple of years. The record plays great and I kind of like that that ding probably happened while that record was out on tour. It never even crossed my mind to send it back. It's a record. It's not like it's my kid's insulin or something.

Once in a while, I find it useful to remember: The primary purpose of the album cover is to protect its contents, and provide useful information relevant to the recording.

I've exchanged less than 5 CDs. All but one because of a defect on the disc that prevented it from playing/ripping properly. The most recent one was last December. Disc had a very visible defect and sure enough the rip was absolute shit. And even then, my first reaction was to see if it was available to download. In this case, it wasn't, so I did end up exchanging it for a good copy. And the one time it wasn't due to the disc? It was a digipak with a big razor cut going through the cover.
These guys clearly have never been to, or have managed to forget about, the used shelf at rekkid stores.

A few of those SHite Heads over there I believe have been banned from Amazon for too many returns. I'm no fan boy of Amazon but I don't blame them for not selling anything to these OCD jerks anymore. If it has a little dent on the corner it won't look good on the shelf.

An eBay seller's worst nightmare. They will find things to bitch about that no sane person will even think to focus on.

I’ve never returned a record. I’ve has some creases, dings, scratches, and pops. Big fucking deal. Mostly, though, records arrive in the mail perfectly acceptable. I have no idea how these guys have such bad luck that it takes ten tries just to get a record that plays.

I think half the reason some of these guys have so many records that won't play is because they can't follow directions and don't actually understand what their turntable or record cleaners need to work correctly. Running something like an AT95 cart at 1.5 instead of the recommended 2 grams tracking force because they saw that a Shure used to track at 1.25. Or making homebrew record cleaning solutions for something like a Spin Clean because the two year supply sized bottle is 20 bucks. Then again, they seem pretty happy listening to their speakers out of phase for two years, so what should I expect?

The store I use when I am close to it has become buyer beware, no refunds on any vinyl. Why? The manager caught people who were buying albums online from Amazon, B&N, etc and receiving damaged albums. Instead of working with the vendor they would go into his shop, but the album at retail price, take it home, exchange a good disc for the damaged one, and bring back and say it was damaged and get a full refund. He said it was starting to be the same people over and over, and it caught up with one when they brought back an album that was pressed with a different label or some difference compared to what was sold to them. So now it’s no refunds or exchanges on record albums. Some assholes ruined it for everyone else.

They more or less have to eat returns on vinyl because the terms are so shit from the distros. They insist it’s worth it but their used section is twice as large as the new, if that tells you anything.
