This thread is full of apocalyptic boomer brilliance, but laibach gets the biscuit with his devotion to CDs.
laibach: "Music will survive in recorded CDs. When civilisation collapses then the Internet will be gone forever, with physical artifacts as the only remains of ancient recorded music, long live the CD."
bzfgt points out the obvious: "Except we won't be able to play them..."
But laibach is looking at the big picture: "No I disagree. Assuming that civilisation disappears, will there be any humans left on the planet? I'm assuming that aliens from far away planets will eventually find those CDs. Being such a primitive technology, any other extraterrestrial civilisation will be able to decode it. Unless there are zombies left to roam the planet, in that case I admit they'll have a hard time playing CDs or do they even enjoy music?" Yay future Gleep Glorps are gonna at least be able to hear Egypt Station!

Aren’t there early seedees that are already unplayable due to manufacturing issues?

Aren’t there early seedees that are already unplayable due to manufacturing issues? Only because of our primitive technology. The aliens will get them working again. Unless they are Zombies, of course.

There are some instances of disc rot on a few specific titles, but the vast majority are fine. Anecdotally, I have a bunch from 1984-1988 timeframe, they're all in good shape.

Thanks. I legit couldn’t remember but having owned self destructing laserdiscs (where were due to the glue holding the sides together) I couldn’t remember if there was something similar in the audio world.

Aliens won't bother with reverse engineering CD audio. After the apocalypse, the only way to hear music will be from wandering troubadours like rfreeman. Unplugged versions of all your fave Motown hits, all day long, courtesy of Beagle Boy.
Now there's a future worth looking forward to.

As a result of the nuclear fallout, he will mutate and grow extra heads. At that point, he will be able to recreate those harmony hooks and sultry seductions on his own. Which is good, because with new mouths to feed and a scarcity of food, he'll have to eat the other Beagles.

From the same factory, if I remember it correctly. Both CDs and laserdiscs made at the PDO plant in Blackburn, Lancashire, had problems. I had several PDO CDs that bronzed from the outside inwards, causing the last tracks to be unplayable.

So that's where the 4000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire went.

So that's where the 4000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire went. Ladies and gentlemen, give a hand to Arnold Grove!
