A full half century since four grown men confirmed they’d rather spend their time and talents with their wives (or friends’ wives) than each other, and I’m sure it’ll be marked with more sadness and ‘this one hurts’ by those boomer dickheads than any current health crisis. In terms of actual opinion, here’s an interesting article with the perspectives of some fairly noteworthy people on their memories of the day by the ever-reliable Jude Rodgers. Few too many non-white voices in there for it to be acceptable over at Hoofy’s, though. www.theguardian.com/music/2020/apr/09/shattered-paul-weller-booker-beatles-split-50-years-ago-fans

Why didn't they ask a certain soon-to-be Remastering Genius (let's call him STeVE)? After all, he was there. After all, he wouldn't make up a story just to impress a bunch of people on an internet forum.

STeVE doesn't talk about it, but his English mother took him to see the Beatles at Twickenham. It was January 1969. He was 7, or 13, or somewhere round there. Ringo and George were pretty standoffish. But Paul took little STeVE on his knee and played him a brand new, never before heard song: Lady Madonna. Then John walked in, draped in his fur coat like royalty. Yoko was there too. Johnny took one look at little STeVE and said "wot's this little man doing here?" John was talking about how he was invited to do a show in Toronto by "some bloke named Kim Fowley." "Oh, I know him!" little STeVE chimed in. "He's a 'right gear chap.'" Once the band started to get to work, little STeVE wandered off and found himself in the tape vaults. George Martin walked in and pulled the Hollywood Bowl tapes out. "You want to try mixing them?" George Martin was so impressed with his work but sadly didn't save it. He tried his best to replicate STeVE's genius mixes in 1977. As he was leaving, Patti Boyd arrived. She was so enamored by how handsome and charming he was that she immediately offered up one of her sisters to him. He was 19 at this point.
Later that year, he premiered the unreleased Get Back album on WBCN. He was also the first to report that Paul was dead. Charles Manson called in. They talked politics and Beach Boys. But Charles Manson was an evil man. He admitted to STeVE that he preferred Beach Boys remixes over the originals.
