Hey all,As a huge music fan, at this time of year when I watch Christmas specials, not only do they bring back memories of when I was a kid, but they make me think of what was going on in music when they came out.
When Rudolph is on I think, "Hey, the Beatles came to the states the year this came out!"
Or with Frosty, it's "The Beatles were splitting up when this came out, and Hendrix was still alive".
Not exactly what they had in mind when they made these classics, but that's what I think of.
Yes, I know it's weird...but has anyone else ever thought of this?
You'll never go broke overestimating how bizarre the world is to a Beatard.
Yes, the first thing I think of when I watch the "Frosty the Snowman" cartoon is "wow, the Beatles were breaking up at the same time..." I mean, holy fuck where to begin? An old man watching cheap, stale 60's cartoons? Knowing what fucking year Frosty the Snowman came out? Seeing a cartoon snowman and immediately thinking "Beatles!"
(As with the Monkees, I'm not dissing the fabbies although sometimes I wonder how much The Beatles really must suck to have such sappy, thick, emotionally stunted fans?)
So, do the SHites give the correct reply and say "fuck off loser, the cartoon forum is thataway"? Well, as you probably already know, no they do not.

I do the same thing. We just re-watched Santa Claus is Comin' to Town! (1970) and that stop-motion animation got me nostalgic. I looked up a few 1970 timelines to see what else was happening that what may or may not have been inspiring Rankin/Bass:
The Who Live at Leeds (and not to forget their Met performance)
Kelly's Heroes hit cinemas
Elvis Presley went back on tour after a long hiatus
Pink Floyd released Atom Heart Mother
Black Sabbath released their eponymous album
PBS was born
Doonesbury debuted
Apollo 13 mission
Before I comment on this post, I'll say that Boo Rad looks like the exact kind of hipster type SHites love to hate. He uses what I think is his own photo, a late-20's/mid 30's guy with a beard, striking a "thinker" pose. He is from the hipster capital of the world, Austin Texas. He takes his name from semi-obscure indie geek favorites "The Boo Radleys", unless he is taking it from "To Kill A Mockingbird" which I am pretty sure he is not.
As for his comment. Yes, I am sure "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town!" was "inspired" by Black Sabbath, Atom Heart Mother, and "Kelly's Heroes" wtf wtf
