Also keep in mind Ike & Tina Turner were more successful than 99% of all musicians. Clearly there were very few, if any, racial barriers preventing black artists from succeeding.Diamond Dog said:
Demonstrably false and amazingly uninformed.Karate Chop said:
Uh.. no. Demonstrably true and showed in this very thread above. You even agree with me in your above statement. If this narrative were true, then there would've hardly been any popular black acts from this era, which is exactly the opposite of what we see. Some of the most successful and most influential acts from the 50 and 60s were black.

Maybe the most incredible thing I ever read here….I had to do a double, triple and quadruple take ….Karate Chop said:
Thank you. I'm glad to help educate and dispel false narratives that ppl believe a priori without checking for themselves.Tbh you don't need to dig deep. Just a quick sanity check on a lot of these supposed 'racial' claims dispels the narrative.

Quite frankly I find your opinion to be offensive. There is ample evidence showing that racial issues were not as prominent or restrictive as ppl like you want so desperately want to believe. I've provided evidence in this very thread while you've provided none and dismissed me as being "Nonsensical and offensive". It's sad that you find the truth to be nonsensical and offensive.Karate Chop said:
Correct, because I not only say what is true, but I show it.Go ahead and continue with your offensive and bigoted beliefs that racism keeps ppl down when we're in a thread that includes one of the most successful black pop stars ever. But don't make claims that you can't back up.

They did well in my very white city of Vancouver at the time, almost yearly. My friend has a bunch of posters in a 3k sized venue.I&T did "white" tv plenty of times and got very respectable billing on woodstock era festival bills that didn't scare anyone.
I think it's the material, wrong label connections and probably Ike stepping on the feet of the industry people due to heavy substance use.

So before this thread gets padlocked, did anyone here get a chance to see Ike and Tina live?STeVE Hoffman said:
Yes, opening for The Rolling Stones. And I’m requesting the moderation team to either fix or remove this thread.
