What would Jimi Hendrix have thought about rap/hip hop?
He would have hated it with every fiber of his being, according to mine.
And to be fair, those who dislike hip hop aren't going to agree.
Considering his generation, it's safer to say Hendrix wouldn't like it. You don't hear of too many Classic Era artists saying they're into hip hop.

IMHO, I think he would have had no opinion...Wild Horse said:
I'm sure as an 81 year old he'd be a huge hip hop fan, probably decked out in gold chains and braggin' about his b*tches and his gat.

Hendrix liked to play music on his guitar, not talk over someone else's music.ironbutterfly said:
He like most, would have thought most rap post 1991 is unlistenableWild Horse said:
Dude, this is all just speculation. Anyone who likes hip hop is going to say "Oh golly he would have just LOVED hip hop!"And to be fair, those who dislike hip hop aren't going to agree.

Probably wouldn't have liked it, he was even getting away from rock.Mr Bass said:
Maybe I'm missing something here. Hendrix was one of the most creative and accomplished electric guitar players ever. Why would he even think about 2 genres with virtually no virtuoso guitar?healter skealter said:
He would probably have bemoaned its lack of musicality, but as he'd only have been in his early 40s when it started, maybe he could've helped fix that.Another Steve said:
I think he would have been polite in public, snickered in private.audiomixer said:
He would have thought that it was "lazy", both musically and lyrically.synthfreek said:
Without bringing your personal bias against hip-hop into this, why would he think that socially conscious and sophisticated lyrics be lazy?audiomixer said:
First, musically it tends to be lazy; i.e. highly repetitive without bring much to the table. Second, sophisticated lyrics are in the ear of the beholder; i.e. highly repetitive without bringing much to the table.DTK said:
Jimi had a message of peace and love. Doesn't really jibe with hip hop.audiomixer said:
A lot of them are to me. It's just a musical culture I can't relate to. And don't care to. People hate classical and jazz music, don't they?Evethingandnothing said:
He would probably have invented it in 1972 and moved onto something else by '73.Wild Horse said:
He'd be on this forum trolling hip hop fanbois. :laugh:Fruff76 said:
Maybe he would've initially liked it, until it became a tired, old, predictable joke.
