Genuine condolenses to the family and friends of Peter Tork. His passing wasn’t such a surprise considering him dropping out sight last year – especially after the Monkees released their new Christmas album. FWIW, many years ago, I wrote to each member of the group and Peter was the only one who replied. So, for that little act of kindness, I thank him. There is a heavy-duty sarcasm and a ruthless unforgiving mercilessness toward the worst traits of SHiTeVille on this board, but I know there are real people here (by real I mean, you know, a certain degree of intelligence and sensitivity) who actually do enjoy music and the intelligent discussion of it. That can enjoy a lot of different acts, which may or may not include the Monkees. That have a sensible, objective attitude toward audio gear. A contempt for the audiophool bullshit.
It's encouraging, even heartwarming (wow) to see this poat. I have almost written letters to a couple of my heroes over the years. When George Harrison (you might know him as STeVE's sidekick) was attacked in his own home in the middle of the night, back in whenever it was, I was shocked as fuck (ridicule me if you must but when Lennon was killed it had an impact on teenage me) and wrote him a letter. I never mailed it, thinking there was no way he'd ever actually read it.
So, yeah. Thanks Suze.
I dunno...but I think the heavy sarcasm we throw around with reckless abandon is more of a reaction to the SHites who feel compelled to show that their own level of knowledge/empathy/sense of loss/what-have-you is greater than anyone else's. Take JamieC's over-the-top reaction for instance: "No......... Oh God!". What the fuck is that? You can just feel the crying and shaking right through your screen... Then there are the ghouls who fall all over themselves to get their own RIP threads set up before anyone else. I was saddened by John Lennon's death as it was pointless, but I don't wallow in self-pity every December 8th. (I also feel a hell of a lot more empathy for Yoko (as her husband was gunned down right next to her) than I do for any SHites bemoaning the loss of any potential future releases from their hero.) What's more, the SHites' "Queen-For-A-Day"-like sob stories every year are sickening. (JamieC's evergreen classic poat about "baby holding him throughout the night" after Lennon was killed is still the gold standard for Chappie Award entries.) I don't believe anyone here is truly happy when pop-culture figures die. I'd like to think most of the snarky stuff we poat is just a way to compensate for the treacly bullshit that goes on over there on a daily basis.

Everyone relax. We’re not sitting here with glee because Peter Tork died. It’s all to do with those assholes and their over the top drama class reactions. I don’t get overly weepy when celebs die but there have been a few that really hit hard. Robin Williams was one in particular.
As you saw when one of our own was involved in a mass shooting, we are capable of showing emotion and empathy.

Yeah I generally agree, the other three monkeys were arseholes, but Tork had a smidgen of credibility to him.

If they are destroyed by the death of someone they don't know, what the fuck do they do when family dies? To the SHites, these people ARE family. To quote the Grand Mullet.....THIS.
I'm sure Peter Tork was a nice guy and it is of course sad that he's passed away. But the reason I play the Death Pool isn't because of how I feel about these musicians, it's how the SHiTE's perceive them.
There's a big difference between a short "RIP" for someone I've never met, as opposed to crying my eyes out or having to take a day off from work. Same reason why I laugh at the whole December 8th thing.

Peter Tork did seem to come across as the only Monkee who wasn't a flying fucking asshole egomaniac. LOL

Now that we've unnecessarily but thankfully successfully reestablished the initial purpose of our RIP thread, can we please get back to shaking, crying, group weep fests and wallowing in despair? Thank you.

The whole “and then there were two” Beatles comparison is hilarious. The Monkees were fun and had a handful of great hits, but the same could be said for the Partridge Family.

RIP Pete. Your life added much value. I hope there's a reason for this. For death. For life. THIS HAS TO MEAN SOMETHING!!!!! Yeah, this one definitely hurts. my wife just informed me of this...R.I.P. I think I've seen Peter perform live more than any other person, with Monkees and Shoe Suede Blues. Not a Monkees fan in the least, but I’m sad for the fans that are hurting from his death. Stay hard, Peter. we’ve lost an icon and a music visionary. Our childhood is passing away. It's the end of the line now for Monkees reunions. A sad moment for us. Sort of. Except that Mike and Micky go back out on tour next week. His vocal on Your Auntie Grizelda was worthy of Roger Miller. Thanks to those who reminded me of Auntie Grizelda. Don't know why that escaped me. Glad he got a showcase moment at least on the second album. Funny how it sounds like a throwaway number, but to suddenly come up with this scatting / wordless accompaniment is pretty remarkable. Ella Fitzgerald would have approved.

Amazing shit these idiots come up with. Never in a million years had I though I'd see Auntie Grizelda and Ella Fitzgerald in the same paragraph.

Also, I love the ultimate SHite pointless +1 poat: “I wasn’t a fan and I know nothing about them but sorry for the fans.” So why say anything? Who cares? SH.tv is the only board I know of that seems to encourage shitpoating.

Useless factoid #795: Grizelda is an anagram of Fitzgerald. Leftover letters are f(ar)t.
